A fifth consecutive win for the Under 18's in a game they dominated from the start.
Some early chances were squandered by Town but they took the lead from a corner after 20 minutes. Sean Leggett knocked a near post corner which Dan Harvey headed goalbound. The quick movement of Olly Lochhead, in front of the home keeper, saw Lochhead head the ball in from close range.
Town continued to press but had to wait until just before half time when a strong run by Michael Belli saw him drive the ball in from close range.
The second half was mainly controlled by Town and they certainly were able to knock the ball around. A strong performance by Aaron Willsher at right back and good width from Rory Trenholme were the highlights of the second half performance.
Town eventually scored the third goal after 80 minutes. Left back Alex Thompson cut in from the left and drilled a 30 yard right foot shot into the top right hand corner. This was certainly the goal of the season so far for the Under 18's.
A special mention for Matt Hole, Town's Under 16 captain. He came off the bench to make his debut for the Under 18's and gave an excellent performance.
Next week it is cup action for the Under 18's as they travel to Sutton United on Wednesday night.
Team : Owens, Willsher, Thompson, Major, Lochhead, Snape, Trenholme, Belli, Leggett, Richards and Harvey.
Subs (All Used) : Knight, Hole and Burns

Town Under 18's ran out comfortable winners in this Southern Youth League local derby fixture at East Court on Wednesday evening.
In front of a large crowd, Town took control from the second minute when they took the lead. A weak clearance from the Lingfield defence saw the ball at the feet of Sean Leggett; he drove a powerful shot from 25 yards which gave the Lingfield keeper no chance.
This was the perfect start for Town and with their confidence high they dominated both possession and territory. Their play led to a number of very good chances with Lewis Richards and Dave Knight both going close to extending the lead and it was no surprise when Town eventually increased the lead on 35 minutes. An East Grinstead corner was not cleared and David Major, from six yards, smashed the ball into the roof of the net.
Town's dominance in the first half was evident by the fact that Town keeper, Scott Owens, did not have to make one save.
The second half started rather scrappy, with neither side really getting hold of the ball. Richards again went close for Town in this period but most of the play was in the midfield area.
The Town back three of Dan Snape, Chris Smith and Alex Thompson were outstanding; they controlled the dangerous Lingfield forwards throughout the game. Town wide players, Dan Harvey and Dean Coomber, started to find some room and both had good shots at goal as Town started to up the pace in the final quarter.
The deadlock in the second half was eventually broken on 80 minutes when Olly Lochhead put a great pass to Michael Belli, who rounded the keeper and scored to give Town a three goal lead. Town were not finished and good work by substitutes Rory Trenholme and Ben Burns, saw Burns fire the fourth goal with a speculative effort from 30 yards.
A good hardworking display by Town Under 18's in a competitively fought local derby. Town were disappointed that they could not play more attractive football but were obviously happy with the final report.
Team : Owens, Snape, Smith, Thompson, Coomber, Major, Leggett, Belli, Harvey, Richards and Knight. Subs Used : Burns, Trenholme and Lochhead. Unsed Sub : Willsher

| :: Dorking 2, East Grinstead Town 3 :: |

This was a game we controlled but tried our hardest to give it away in the last 15 minutes. Town started at such a high tempo that Dorking could not get near the Wasps team. Their passing and movement on a poor pitch was excellent. It was no surprise when they took the lead after 8 minutes. A long clearance from Owens was headed on by Major and Belli latched onto the ball to score at ease. Thompson and Harvey were tearing into the Dorking defence at every opportunity. A long ball from Thompson found Belli again who smashed the ball past the keeper from 15 yards. Belli then turned provider after only 15 minutes when his superb cross field ball found Leggett who calmly lobbed the advancing keeper.
Town had chances to extend their lead but the score remained 3-0 at half time. The second half saw Town squander more chances before Dorking scored on 65 minutes. Wasps continued to create and miss chances and when Dorking scored after 85 minutes it seemed that the game was slipping away.
Fortunately the boys held on for a well desrved victory but it certainly taught them a lesson in finishing off games when they are so much on top.
Team : Owens, Willsher, Thompson, Major, Snape, Smith, Leggett, Belli, Knight, Dawes and Harvey. Subs Used : Coomber and Trenholme.

| :: Three Bridges 2, East Grinstead Town 1 :: |
back to top  |
This was a match that Wasps lost rather than Three bridges won. The game started with Town in complete control and passing and moving the ball really well. The only danger to town was the long ball from Bridges but that was comfortably dealt with by the solid back four of Willsher, Lochhead, Smith and Thompson.
Wasps took the lead after 25 minutes when Thompson was fouled in the box and he got up to send the Bridges keeper the wrong way. The first half finished with Town still holding a 1-0 lead. The second half started with neither team really controlling the game but on the hour mark Wasps had a mad 5 minutes. They conceded 2 really soft goals and this made it very difficult.
The final 25 minutes saw Town play their best football of the season so far. They lifted the tempo and really attacked Bridges. Belli went close three ocassions and both Harvey and Fort also went close. It was just not to be and Town were not able to find the goal that their efforts and play deserved.
Team : Johnson, Willsher, Thompson, Major, Lochhead, Smith, Dawes, Belli, Knight, Walter and Harvey. Subs Used : Snape, Nottidge and Fort.

| :: East Grinstead Town 1, Oakwood 3 :: |

A very much end-to-end match which Town should really have got a point from. In the first half, Town keeper, Adam Johnson, had two good saves to make but other than that the defence was rarely troubled. The two Town centre backs, Olly Lochhead and Chris Smith, both having good games. Town were a constant threat in the first half through the direct running od forward, Adam Dawes. In fact Town could easily have led at half time when a shot from Michael Belli was saved by the keeper.
Town started the better of the two teams in the second half with Alex Thompson and Dan Harvey a constant threat on the left hand side. The defence was continuing to do well with Aaron Willsher solid at right back. Oakwood took the lead against the run of play after 60 minutes.
Town responded well and were level in the 70th minute. A pass from David Major found David Knight, who finished well from the edge of the box. when it looked like Town may well go on and win the game they were hit with a controversial penalty after 80 minutes. As they then pushed forward for the equaliser they were caught with a laate break away goal.
It was a good first display for quite an inexperienced team and they now look forward to an away game at Three Bridges.
Team : Johnson, Willsher, Thompson, Major, Lochhead, Smith, Nottidge, Belli, Burns, Dawes and Harvey.
Subs Used : Knight, Walter and Trenholme
Sub Not Used : Fort
