Town were unlucky not to secure all three points in a thrilling encounter against their old rivals. After an even start, Town took control of the match and some of their football was a joy to watch. Westpfel latched onto a Fildes throw in but his lob went inches wide. Mann nearly got on the end of a Sawyer corner before Athletic dragged a shot wide in a rare attack. The home side were finding it hard to get at Town thanks to some fine man marking by Collins whilst at the back, Hinton was in commanding form. Town nearly scored one of the goals of the season as Sawyer tried an Alonso style lob from just inside the Crowborough half. Soon after, a Leggett through ball put Westpfel in but the keeper parried the ball away. A McManus run stretched the Athletic defence before Town were denied a penalty following a handball. After another Westpfel shot, Town finally took the lead as Fildes was brought down in the box. He dusted himself down before cooly despatching the penalty kick. A Hinton through ball released Westpfel but his effort was blocked for a corner. Finally, the home side pressed as the half drew to a close but Town were well worth their lead.

The second half nearly started badly for Town as miskicks from Mann and Hinton put Athletic in. Thankfully, Wrintmore was on hand to finger tip the ball over. Town quickly got on the front foot again with another mazy run from McManus and a shot from Collins. At the other end, Athletic had a shot but it was still Town asking all the questions as fine link up play between Sawyer and Fildes nearly ended with a Fildes goal. McManus continued to maraud down the left flank for Town as they pressed for a second goal.

Westpfel again linked up with Fildes who squared for Sawyer but his shot went agonisingly wide. The miss was costly as from the next attack the home side drew level. Town responded well and Fildes looped over a shot from a Leggett free kick. With the end of the match looming, both sides went in search of the winner. Westpfel went close twice for Town but it was the home side who finished the stronger as Wrintmore was called into action with a fine save. Mann then hooked one off the line before Wrintmore completed the clearance.

Further shots followed before Fildes nearly miskicked into his own net. At the death, Collins completed a fine display as he saved on the line to keep parity.

Grinstead entertained the League Cup winners in their final home game of the season but their seriously depleted squad couldn't withstand the pace and quality of the visitors.

Grinstead were under the cosh from the off and were quickly one nil down following a quick break. More pressure followed and debutant keeper Wrintmore made two fine point blank saves. He could do nothing to stop the second however as Hastings were allowed a free header from a cross. A third soon followed as a cross drifted into the net. A Westpfel shot gave temporary respite to Grinstead but within minutes it was 4-0. A Leggett free kick nearly fell to Hole and Fildes but Hastings scrambled the ball to safety. A fine piece of play from Fildes caused Hastings trouble and soon after he had a shot blocked after a marauding run from McManus. Hastings added another before Westpfel dragged a shot wide.

Grinstead started the second half playing for pride but the pattern of the match continued as Wrintmore kept the score down with some fine saves. A sixth goal was inevitable and a defensive mix up ended in a seventh. In between, Thiselton tested the keeper with a fine shot which was tipped away for a corner. Grinstead to their credit rallied and Fildes went clean through but couldn't find the finish. A fine turn and shot by Thiselton went wide before Grinstead got a consolation goal. Leggett picked up a Fildes cross and steadied himself before slotting past the keeper. An eighth followed before a Sawyer drive at the keeper. Hastings then completed the scoring to complete a difficult day for Grinstead.

Town's Under 16's were given the honour of playing on the County League Division 2 champions home ground and they put on a fine display in this friendly.

In a frenetic start to the game, Westpfel had the first chance for Town following a through ball from Hinton. A last gasp tackle from captain Hole saved Town at the other end before Collins saw a snapshot go wide. Jenner then came to Town's rescue as he turned a chip away for a corner.

Despite Trojan's possession, Town were having the clearer chances and finally they took one as Collins raced clear to open the scoring. From the restart a piledriver nearly brought Trojans level and soon after Mann just managed to edge the ball to Jenner as Trojans sought the equaliser. An offside flag saved Town before Hole thwarted another break with a fine saving challenge.

A through ball from Leggett then released Westpfel but the Trojans keeper and defender combined to deny him. Westpfel again was thwarted by the keeper before the visitors made it 1-1 after sloppy defending from Town. Trojans tails were up and a shot went into the side netting. Back came Town and a Leggett free kick nearly restored Town's lead. From the corner, Trojans just scrambled the ball to safety. Westpfel then turned provider as Sawyer broke clear only to be denied by fine goalkeeping. Hole then headed a Sawyer corner over before another Leggett free kick tested the keeper. Town welcomed back Mackintosh from injury and he very nearly capped his return with a goal as Town again unlocked Trojans rearguard.

Town came out the stronger in the second half and a Fildes cross was cracked against the bar by Collins. Westpfel and Fildes were denied in a goalmouth scramble before a blistering break from Trojans ended with a shot that went just wide. A fine left footed volley went inches wide but it was Town who grabbed the lead minutes later as Leggett suddenly broke clear and finished with some style. An audacious chip from Westpfel went just over as Trojans started to fade. Mackintosh headed over from a corner but soon after it was 3-1 to Town. A delightful through ball from Sawyer found Fildes who took the ball round the keeper before slotting home.

Trojans battled back and Jenner produced a fine one handed save to keep Town's lead. It was soon 3-2 however as the visitors scrambled the ball in from a corner. Trojans smelt an equaliser but fine defending from Town kept them out. The game then turned on one incident as Jenner kicked the ball out for the stricken Hole to receive treatment. From the restart, Trojans carried on and a stunned Town watched as the ball was swept into the goal.

Squad:- Collins, Fildes, Hinton, Hole, Jenner, Leggett, Mann, Mackintosh, McManus, Pelling, Sawyer, Westpfel, Wrintmore

Town made heavy work of their opening game in the Tournament Shield but came through as worthy winners.

After withstanding some early pacey attacks from the visitors, Collins had Town's first effort on goal. He then turned provider as Town took an early lead. A great ball was helped on by Hinton and Westpfel finished in style. Langton came straight back but stought defending from Hole kept them at bay. Soon after, a free kick was fizzed across the Town goal but nobody could make a connection. Town then got a second as a fine ball from Sawyer was taken on by Fildes. He held off the defenders before firing past the keeper. Town's tails were now up and a Westpfel cross was just too close to the keeper with Thiselton waiting to pounce. Sawyer then had a shot at the keeper before the visitors whipped a shot inches wide. McManus then set up Collins but he fired over. Some of Town's link up play was a joy to watch and from one of these moves Leggett tested the keeper from the resultant free kick. Suddenly, the visitors got a lifeline as they scored against the run of play. Back came Town and McManus fed Collins but his shot was blocked by the keeper. McManus fired the rebound goalwards but the keeper collected.

The second half started with Town on top and a McManus shot drifted wide.

Leggett was then within inches from a free kick before Town finally got the cushion of a third goal. A Jenner kick found Fildes just inside the Langton half. He took the ball on, used his strength to hold off the challenges before sliding the ball home with great aplomb. Langton thought they had got back into it after Jenner picked up a passback. A quick pass into the net was to no avail though as the kick was indirect. Town's relief was short lived however as a cross was bundled into the net for 3-2. Mann then picked up the ball just inside the Langton half. He worked himself clear of the defenders before firing inches wide. Leggett then fired over from another free kick before turning provider for Mann but his snapshot went wide.

Langton then worked the ball well but fired well over the bar. Fildes then released Sawyer but the keeper just made it in time to collect.

Town secured three points in the second match of a dramatic double header at Kings Centre on Sunday. An early run and shot from Westpfel set the tone as Town quickly took a three goal lead. A powerful run and shot from Fildes ended with Thiselton gleefully tapping the ball in. Leggett then produced a sublime free kick for the second before Fildes produced a fine finish after a great ball from Collins. Colts heads didn't drop though and they gradually came back into the game. A quick break looked to have unhinged Town but Mcmanus somehow got back to clear off the line.

Virtually from trhe restart, Wealden gave themselves a lifeline with a fine goal from another quick break. Town then had to scramble the ball away as Colts sensed a comeback was possible. Half chances fell to Westpfel, Collins and Mann before Colts broke clear. Jenner came out and produced another fine stop. Finally, Colts got a second to give Town a nervous end to the match.

Jenner then produced a fine double save and with virtually the last attack Colts were queing up to score but the Town keeper somehow managed to keep the ball from going over the line to secure the win.

In the first match of a double header Town never really got going but still managed to get a share of the spoils.

Wealden had the best of the early play before a Fildes cross just eluded Sawyer. Collins then blazed over before another quick break from the visitors came to nothing. Jenner then came to Town's rescue after a rare mistake from captain Hole let Colts in on goal. However, Colts scored directly from the resultant corner to take a deserved lead. With time running out, Town hauled themselves back into the match as a Fildes shot was parried to Westpfel who made no mistake.

Town started the second period better with a Leggett shot before Westpfel put the ball over from a Collins free kick. Jenner then saved Town with a reflex save from a fine turn and volley. Colts piled on more pressure and Jenner tipped over a goalbound header. Westpfel then slid Mann in who cracked a shot wide. With time nearly up Colts thought they had won it but Jenner pulled off another fine stop with his leg to win a point for Town.

Despite the scoreline, Grinstead put in a tremendous effort against the likely champions with a depleted side.

Grinstead dominated the opening half and were unlucky not to take a larger lead into the break. An early Fildes run and a Pelling free kick set the tone for the half. The home side did respond but their pressure produced only half chances. Another driving run from Fildes won a corner for Grinstead as they seized the initiative.

A push on Fletcher produced a penalty appeal and soon after the same player was hauled to the ground in the box only for the referee to bring the play back for the initial foul. Leggett whipped the free kick goalwards only to see the keeper tip it over for a corner. A Hole free kick nearly put in Fildes as Grinstead sought the goal their play deserved. Fildes then released Westpfel whose thundering shot shook the crossbar. A header from the home side went within inches before Grinstead forced a series of corners. Jenner then saved Grinstead with a point blank save. An inch perfect through ball from Hole set Wespfel on his way but he could only loop the ball wide.

Finally, Grinstead got the goal as Mann released Fildes with a fine through ball. Fildes kept his nerve, rounded the keeper and slotted the ball into the empty net.

The home side were rattled but came out determined to up the tempo and get their title aspirations back on course. A fine headed goal from Hastings was ruled offside before last ditch tackles from Collins and Hole kept Town's lead intact. Finally though the pressure paid off as Hastings scored the equaliser. More pressure followed before Fletcher fed Westpfel who was denied by a last gasp tackle. Back came Hastings and after further near misses they finally got their noses in front.

Grinstead started to tire with no options from the bench and they clung on despite a string of attacks from the home side. Mcmanus valiantly got one off the line but Grinstead couldn't prevent the decisive third goal. Grinstead rallied and it should have been 3-2 as a point blank save denied Westpfel from a Leggett free kick. The save proved vital as from the next attack it was 4-1 and a fifth followed near the end to give a slightly flattering scoreline.

Town took many positives from this game but they couldn't hold on to their early lead against a Wittersham side who played some fine football.

The visitors quickly put Town on the back foot and a cross shot was turned round the post by Jenner who went on to have a fine game. Corners followed for Wittersham but Fildes finally got Town on the offensive with two excellent runs the second ending with a Sawyer shot at the keeper. Westpfel missed a good opportunity but soon after a defensive mistake set him free and he slotted calmly home past the keeper.

Wittersham replied instantly and a deft chip went just over the bar. Sawyer nearly put Mann in before Fildes tested the keeper again. Jenner then produced another fine save to keep the lead intact. A super ball from Mann released Westpfel and he forced a corner. Sawyer swung it over and Town's claims for a handball were waved away.

Wittersham went within inches of the equaliser as a shot fizzed just wide. With half time looming Town had to dig deep and Jenner produced two more fine saves.

Wittersham came out for the second half determined to get back in the game and Jenner was soon called on to produce a fine double save from point blank range. A Mcmanus run eased the pressure and his cross found Fildes who looked odds on to score before being edged out by three defenders. Another run by Fildes caused panic in the visitors defence before Mcmanus set up Westpfel whose effort went for a corner.

Wittersham upped the tempo and Jenner again kept them at bay. Finally, a corner produced the equaliser as a shot went through a melee of players into the net. Town came straight back and Westpfel fired a free kick wide. Soon after, a fine move from the away side produced the winning goal.

The goal knocked the stuffing out of Town but they fought back valiantly to no avail. Collins fired over and right at the death a sublime through ball from Hole put Westpfel in but he fired wide.

Town finally returned to action after a two month break and came away with a deserved point against the league leaders.

After some early sparring, Row took the lead with an unstoppable shot that gave Jenner no chance. Town bounced back and Hinton went close with a shot. It was soon all square after fine play by Thiselton set up Fildes who calmly slotted the ball over the keeper. Row then upped the tempo and Jenner touched over a goalbound shot.

From the corner, Mann headed off the line and was on hand from the next corner to again get the ball off the line before a fine block from Hole kept parity for Town. Just as Town looked to have withstood the home pressure, a free header made it 2-1. Town responded again and could easily have equalised as Fildes was within inches of converting a Hole free kick.

The first chance of the second half fell to Town but Sawyer couldn't get his free kick beyond the keeper. Row bounced back and Hole tidied up after a fine save from Jenner kept Town in the match. The save proved pivotal as Pelling drilled home a Sawyer corner to level. Row were rattled and Westpfel nearly got in following fine link up play from Sawyer and Leggett. Collins then whipped in a fine cross for Westpfel but he couldn't find the finish.

Row pressed forward and a fine challenge from Mackintosh denied them. With time running out, Town withstood a late flurry from Row to get a deserved share of the derby spoils.

Town destroyed gutsy United with a fine performance of free flowing football. Leggett hit the outside of the post from an early Fildes cross but within minutes Fletcher bagged the opener against his former club. Further chances fell to Westpfel and Leggett before Fletcher nearly added to his tally with a fine header followed by a shot which the keeper turned round the post. Town made it two as Westpfel set up Fildes who slid the ball home.

Westpfel then drilled home a third and soon it was four as he finished off a fine move involving Pelling, Fildes and Collins. Shots from Collins followed before Leggett tried a spectacular volley from a Fildes cross. Westpfel and Mann then linked up well but neither could take their chances. A Sawyer drive finished a fine half for Town.

Coach Leggett shuffled the pack at the break and within fifteen minutes Mann had scored a fine hat trick. A Westpfel cross was volleyed in for the first before a fine header from a Sawyer corner. The excellent Fildes produced another moment of quality and Mann did the rest. Town were rampant now and Fildes sent over another inch perfect cross for Fletcher to gleefully chest home for eight. Hole nearly got on the scoresheet from a Westpfel corner but it was soon nine as Fildes drilled home his second to complete a fine day for Town.

Town had to settle for a share of the points despite dominating the play in truly awful weather conditions. Town set the early pace and good runs from Pelling and Mackintosh signified Town's intent. Chances fell to Fildes, Leggett and Mcmanus but the home side went closest as a break ended with a shot over. Soon after, Town gifted the home side the lead as a mistake by Jenner was punished. Town continued to probe away at the home side and a fine run by Fildes set up Collins for a shot. Hole nearly glanced Town level from a Leggett free kick and soon after he blazed the ball over after a Sawyer corner went through a pack of players to him. Great play from Fletcher set up Thiselton and from the rebound Leggett went close. Town then had a scare at the other end but Mann scambled the ball off the line. Fildes drilled the ball over from a Sawyer cross before Fletcher was denied by a great save from the keeper.

It was all Town in the second half and the pressure finally paid off as Fildes drilled the ball home for the equaliser. Fildes went close again from a Leggett free kick as Town sensed a winner. Fletcher went close after a one two with Leggett before Town finally got their noses in front as Mann headed home a Fildes cross to spark great celebrations. Collins, Mann and Fletcher went close to adding to Town's tally but a fine block from Thiselton kept the lead intact as the home side started to shoe some urgency going forward.

Collins went close with a fine volley and then struck a post with a wicked low shot. With just minutes remaining, a quick free kick was put in the box. Jenner punched away but the ball was drilled back low into the bottom corner to give Langton an undeserved point.

Town were soon left to rue the miss as Hastings caught them on the break to take the lead. Jenner then palmed a left footed drive away before Fildes glanced a header wide from a Mcmanus cross. Town drew level as a fine pass from Mann was finished by Fildes. Hole then released Fildes but the keeper just got to the ball in time to avert the danger. Town were caught napping again as another slick break ended in a goal for the visitors. Hole then cleared a free kick off the line to keep Town in the game. Fildes was within inches of an equaliser after being put through by Hole again. At the other end Town got a bit of luck as Hastings struck the post only to see the rebound go straight into the arms of Jenner.

A fine run and shot by Sawyer lifted Town again and near the end of the half, Thiselton was unable to connect after good work down the right by Mann and Mcmanus.

Hastings spurned a glorious chance at the start of the second half but soon after it was 3-1 as a defensive mix up ended in an own goal from captain Mackintosh. Hastings were testing Town's defence and Hole had to be at his best to clear the danger. Town responded well however and Collins went close as he turned and shot over. Finally, Town got a lifeline from a Leggett free kick. Hole's header hit the bar but Westpfel was there to sweep in the rebound. Town upped the tempo and a Leggett snap shot went close. Jenner saved at the other end as the visitors battled back but the game turned on a hotly contested free kick. Hastings took it quickly and the ball looped over Jenner's head and into the net. Jenner again saved Town after a strong break down the right and from the corner, Athletic took a deserved lead. Town made the long trip to Wittersham on Sunday and were soon up against it.

Jenner made an early save but could do nothing to stop a thunderous twenty five yard drive that flew past him into the top corner. The home side continued to intimidate Town with some dubious tackles that were not punished by a poor referee. Hinton had Town's first effort after a Fildes free kick. Wittersham continued to attack Town and eventually a second goal came. Town responded and a fine cross from Sawyer ended with Pelling winning a corner. A dubious penalty decision gave the home side another chance to increase their lead but Jenner pulled off a fine save. A cruel deflection made it three soon after but Town continued to battle bravely. Fildes and Mann linked up well to set up Mcmanus but his shot was cleared to safety.

Town's woeful luck continued as a fourth goal was allowed despite the linesman flagging for offside. Mann then drove down the flank before crossing to Leggett who went down in the box. From the free kick Hinton blasted the ball towards goal only to see it blocked by the hapless referee.

A fifth followed to complete a miserable half for Town.

The second period saw Town get a foothold in the match and they played the better football for the most part. An early Sawyer corner was headed over by Hole before a Collins shot was deflected to the keeper. Another Sawyer corner caused panic in the home defence and Hole nearly made them pay. Fine hold up play from Fletcher released the excellent Fildes but his shot didn't trouble the keeper.

Town went straight to the summit of Division A as they hit Tigers with a mighty six goals. With only eleven players available Town were on the money immediately and controlled the first half.

An early Pelling free kick nearly found Mann at the far post and soon after Westpfel went within inches after his electric pace got him clear. Then, a Leggett volley was deflected wide and from the corner Pelling headed over.

Captain Hole finally got the ball over the line but it was ruled out for a foul. A rare period of Tigers pressure saw a shot wide and a couple of corners but Town held firm. Great play from Collins set up Westpfel whose finish was again ruled out for handball. Mcmanus was looking effortless down the wing and his pin point cross was headed over by Pelling. Wespfel then shot wide after good link up play with Sawyer. Jenner then averted the danger at the other end as the half finished scoreless.

Coach Leggett went 4-4-2 after the break and pleaded for patience from his troops. Early chances fell to Sawyer and Collins before Leggett slipped a delightful ball into Westpfel but he blazed over. Thiselton then drove a loose ball wide as Town turned the screw. A fine run and cross by Mann found Collins but his effort was cleared off the line. Tigers broke from the loose ball but Jenner pounced just in time. Finally, Town got the goal they deserved as Mann released Westpfel who shot across the keeper into the bottom corner. It soon became two as Mcmanus took advantage of a fumble by the keeper. Mcmanus quickly made it it three from a Collins pass as Tigers collapsed.Collins and Westpfel had further efforts before Westpfel made it four after good work between Mann and Leggett. Town's confidence was high and an audacious lob by man of the match Mcmanus was just touched over by the keeper. Hole was then upended in the box and Collins crashed in the penalty. A sending off for Tigers compounded their day and a sixth followed as Mann nodded in a Sawyer corner.

Town warmed up for the new season with a comfortable friendly win against a fiery Borough side. Early chances came and went for Town, the pick of which was a rasping drive from Collins who rattled the visitors crossbar. New signing Fildes linked up with Westpfel who finished cooly for the opener.

Sawyer nearly made it two soon after. A handball on the goaline gave Town the chance to increase their lead but Collins penalty was superbly saved by the keeper. With Town in control the visitors levelled out of nothing and within minutes they had a lead to take into the break.

The team talk from stand in coach Major immediately paid dividends as Westpfel bagged his second of the game. New signing McManus was commanding down the left and his run put Sawyer in who curled his shot wide. Westpfel finally got his hat trick as Fildes once again played provider. Town were in full flow now and Collins despatched a penalty for 4-2. Fildes shot over before the visitors headed wide from a free kick. Fletcher was then upended in the box and Collins stroked in the fifth to round off the win.
