A Sawyer cross was nearly converted by Westpfel and from the rebound Leggett went close. Finally Town got the opening goal as Collins swept the ball in after Bradley's shot was deflected into his path. Mann then flicked on a Westpfel throw but Leggett couldn't connect. Town lost ground in the title race as controversial decisions cost them dear on a tiny pitch. Town got the ideal start however as a Pleon throw set Westpfel clear and he made no mistake. Soon after the game turned Foresters way as the visitors were denied a clear penalty with Sawyer being shoved to the ground. The ref waved away Town appeals and within minutes the home side were 2-1 ahead. Town eventually cleared their heads and a lovely piece of skill and shot from Westpfel nearly clawed them level. Pleon then drove a shot over from a Westpfel corner as Town continued to press. Westpfel was then set free but the keeper came out and blocked. Collins then volleyed over before Pleon went agonisingly close from a Westpfel throw. The keeper again saved Foresters as he came out to deny Collins bravely. With time running out Town couldn't get the ball away and a fine left footed shot put Foresters 3-1 to the good. Town responded with a Collins shot but went in at the break with lots to ponder.
Coach Leggett went 3-4-3 at the start of the second half and they should have scored almost immediately. Collins produced a fine finish but was harshly judged to be offside. Jenner then saved Town as Foresters broke quickly. Finally, Town got a break and a second goal. Town carried on after a disputed throw in and Westpfel netted to give them a lifeline. The goal fired Town and Pelling prodded over a Sawyer corner. Foresters wasted another opportunity after a mistake by Mann before Westpfel bagged his hat trick to draw Town level. Fletcher was then put clean through but the keeper stood firm to deny him. Pleon went close and in a frantic finish Fletcher headed over after good work by Westpfel and Sawyer. Town came away from a difficult test in dreadful conditions with three vital points as their push for promotion back to the A Division gathered momentum.
Town started brightly and a cross whipped in by the lively Fletcher caused panic in the Oak defence before the keeper collected. With their first attack the home side took the lead as a speculative ball deceived Jenner who could only punch the ball into the net. Fletcher thought he had equalised but the referee pulled the play back for a free kick to Town. Mann then shot over before Fletcher took the ball down and fired a left foot shot wide.
Finally, Thiselton equalised as he gave the keeper no chance with a rasping left footed drive. Mann then drilled a shot wide whilst at the other end the excellent Mackintosh tidied up well on two occasions. Thiselton hit the bar with a cross as Town pushed forward towards the end of the half. Oak then gave Town a scare as a goalbound shot came off the bar. Hole blocked the rebound before Jenner finally collected.
Within minutes of the restart, Town went ahead as substitute Westpfel made an immediate impact. He pounced on to a loose ball after the keeper had fumbled a Collins drive and rolled the ball into the net. Town's joy was short lived however as Oak equalised immediately after Town failed to clear their lines. The goal sparked Town and chances fell to Westpfel, Collins and Mann. A Pelling free kick nearly found a Town head before Leggett fired a half volley at the keeper. To Town's relief, they finally got a thired as a Collins cross drifted into the net. Town made hard work of securing three vital points but the scoreline masked their total domination of this match in which they played their best football of the season so far. An early Hinton drive was collected by the keeper before Mann headed wide from a Sawyer corner. Sawyer was then denied by the keeper after being released by Collins. Leggett was calling the shots from midfield and he nearly got the opener with a shot that was saved at point blank range by the overworked Pembury keeper. A Mann run ended with a shot by Hinton and soon after Thiselton fired wide following a Leggett through ball. Despite Town having all the play, Pembury scored with their first attack of the game. Town didn't panic however and were quickly level courtesy of Mann who calmly slid home following a free kick from Hole.
Further chances fell to Mann and Sawyer before Sawyer lobbed Town into the lead. Town couldn't hold on to the lead however as Pembury equalised from a free kick. Further chances came to the visitors the best of which saw two goalbound headers from Mann hit captain Hole to the relief of the Pembury defence.
After an early corner for the home side at the start of the second half, Leggett nearly got Town's third after a cleverly worked free kick. Sawyer twice set up Collins but he couldn't find the finish. Town finally took the lead again as Sawyer finished off a fine move involving Mann and Thiselton.

Town were then grateful to Pelling and Mackintosh who prevented a fourth goal. Thiselton missed a gilt edged chance for Town but finally they scored again as Coillins released Pleon who kept his head to finish after a fine run in on goal. Town were going for the kill but chances came and went for Collins, Mann and Sawyer. The missed chances looked to have cost Town two points as a penalty brought the home side level. Town are full of character this season however and they were rewarded with a penalty of their own which Collins swept into the net. Pleon nearly made it six at the death but the points belonged to Town.

Finally, Town took the lead as Fletcher calmly slotted home after being set free by Mann. The pair combined again soon after but Mann's shot was too close to the keeper. Town's pressure quickly produced a second as Westpfel forced an own goal. It was nearly three after a delightful one two between Mann and Fletcher. Somehow Town allowed Oak back in the game as they conceded a sloppy goal.

In a pulsating top of the table clash, Town crashed to their first league defeat of the season. Despite the bulk of the possession and numerous shots Town couldn't break down a determined Athletic team who leapfrogged Town into top spot as a result. Captain Hole cleared away an early chance for the visitors but from then on Town dominated the play. A delightful ball from Leggett put Westpfel in but his first time shot dipped inches over.
Mackintosh then set up Westpfel but his second touch allowed the defender to clear. At the other end Athletic hit a shot wide after a loose clearance from Mann. Bradley was then harshly penalised for a challenge and from the free kick Athletic curled in the opener. Town responded and Mann did well to to win the ball and set up Collins whose shot was too close to the keeper.
Mann then had a shot before an Athletic free kick was easily collected by Jenner. Westpfel was then put through but couldn't find the finish. Two strikes from Sawyer finished the half with Town on top.
Coach Leggett went 4-3-3 at the start of the second period as Town looked to spread the play using Pleon and Thiselton. Westpfel cut inside and passed to Collins but his shot went over. Sawyer then released Pleon but Athletic managed to get the ball away. The same two players combined again to force a Town corner. Town started the year with a hard fought victory which keeps them flying high at the top the table.
Town enjoyed the bulk of the early exchanges but couldn't find the breakthrough their play deserved. A defensive error let in Westpfel but his effort was blocked for a corner. From the corner, Leggett set up Westpfel who blazed over. A Leggett snap shot flew over the bar before Bradley rolled a shot inches wide. Westpfel then released Sawyer whose shot was parried by the keeper. The visitors nearly took a shock lead but captain Hole cleared off the line. This proved to be vital as Town finally took the lead courtesy of Westpfel who battled for the ball before sliding it past the keeper. The goal roused Foresters and they started to press. Jenner turned a shot round the post and soon after Hole again snuffed out the danger. A Hole interception was superbly kept in play by Westpfel who managed to feed Sawyer. Sawyer rounded the keeper calmly to make it two nil. Further chances fell to Hole, Leggett and Sawyer as Town looked to finish the game off.
A poor start from Town at the start of the second half let Foresters into the game and they quickly reduced the arrears. Westpfel was then set free but he coudn't find the finish to calm Town's nerves. Jenner then saved with his legs but coudn't prevent the equaliser. Foresters poured forward as they sensed an unlikely win and nearly went in front after a poor kick from Jenner. The keeper made amends however as he somehow turned the goalbound effort round the post. Gradually, Town cleared their heads and Collins had two chances. A Pleon block to deny Foresters proved decisive as Town broke forward to score the winner from Westpfel. A Collins shot then fizzed wide as Town saw the game out to claim three vital points.

Sawyer lobbed an early effort over before a Thiselton cross found White who couldn't get any power in his header. After further chances fell to Sawyer, Town finally got the breakthrough courtesy of Collins who picked up a loose ball and lashed it into the net. Town turned the screw and Westpfel and White went close. A screamer from Sawyer made it two which was no more than Town deserved. Mann then set up Westpfel whose scissor kick went over. Town started the second half brightly and a Sawyer drive was nearly spilled by the keeper. Mann then won the ball and set Westpfel free but the keeper collected bravely. Town were always in control of this match and despite letting the visitors back in the game the three points took them a point behind the leaders with a game in hand. Pleon set the tone for the first half as he surged at the visitors defence from a Collins flick on. Soon after, Collins latched on to a hopeful pass from Sawyer and lobbed the keeper with a superb left foot shot for 1-0. Town increaed their lead as a Sawyer corner was headed in by Mann. It was all Town and they threatened to run riot. Great play again from Sawyer set up Thiselton who drove wide. Collins was then denied by a defender after good work from Leggett and Pleon gave him a headed chance.

Chances continued to come Town's way but Collins, Bradley and Sawyer couldn't get the goal the home sides play deserved. Then, with half time looming Town switched off and the visitors got an unlikely lifeline back into the match. The goal roused Borough and Hole and Mackintosh had to defend well to keep Town's lead intact. On the stroke of half time, the visitors went close again but Town survived.
Town cleared their heads during the break but couldn't find the fluent football from the first half. Collins and Leggett had early shots without testing the keeper. A Pelling through ball was flicked on to Westpfel who nearly got a crucial touch. Town lost keeper Jenner to an injury so Collins took the gloves. Within a few minutes Borough thought they had beaten him but the offside flag was raised. Pleon then set up Westpfel whose shot went over the bar. Finally, Town killed the game as a piledriver from Sawyer secured the points. Sawyer then turned provider as his cross was nearly converted by Westpfel. Fine play from White ended in an inviting cross but somehow Pleon and Westpfel missed an easy tap in.
