Wasps Under 15s with several players carrying injuries battled bravely against visitors Whyteleafe in a Tandridge Division A encounter.
With midfield dynamo, Sam Aldred breaking down in the warm up, the signs were not good, but amazingly after just 9 seconds, the alert Kieran Towner seized on an error by the visiting keeper to give Wasps the perfect start.
Olly Smith was then forced off with a leg injury, and Whyteleafe took advantage to equalise through Carim Williams. With half -time approaching, Wasps Charlie Dodd seized on a through ball from Alex Evans, beat two defenders and found the top corner from 30 yards. With Towner, Alex Moore and captain Matty Burroughs controlling the midfield, the 2-1 scoreline was a fair reflection of the first half.
The second half saw Wasps create several chances with Josh Smith and Sean Banks being denied by keeper Higgins. With the defence of Levi Carvana, James Rhodes, keeper Reece Wickwar, and the outstanding Adam White holding firm, a win for the juniors began to look probable.
With ten minutes remaining , a neat one two between Banks and Sam Stewart saw Banks finish clinically to give the battling Wasps a deserved win lifting them above Whyteleafe in the Division A table.

Wasps Under 15s travelled to Dulwich on Sunday to play table topping South Bank FC, and soon realised why the South London side had not dropped a point since the start of the season. However the juniors dug deep and defensively put in the seasons best performance. With centre backs James Rhodes and Adam White ensuring the Grinstead keeper was protected from long range efforts and fullbacks Alex Evans and new signing Levi Carvana cutting out any crosses, the first quarter passed without incident. As South Bank used the wind to their advantage with long throws particularly causing danger, a lose clearance resulted in an unstoppable volley giving the hosts the half time lead.

As the second half progressed and Wasps tired , the home side increased the lead with goals from Yousif, and Dirola in the 60th and 64th minute. Wasps refused to lay down, and with Olly Smith and Charlie Dodd putting in their best performance of the season, the juniors came back into the game when Josh Smith won a penalty and Dodd coolly converted. Smith then somehow had a goal ruled offside, and with Towner and Burroughs going close, it was the hosts who were delighted to hear the full-time whistle.

The juniors recorded a second successive win in the Tandridge league A division overcoming Whyteleafe by 3 goals to 2.

Wasps made yet another slow start and this week paid the price when after five minutes, slack marking and 3 missed tackles allowed the hosts to take the lead. Wasps recovered their composure and an Alex Moore corner was finished well by captain Matty Burroughs. Ryan Fenton then gave the visitors the lead when a corner from the left, was missed by the home defence and keeper, Higgins. Wasps were now playing with confidence, Josh Smith had a penalty claim controversally turned down, and namesake Olly Smith made in two in two games to give the juniors a 3-2 lead at half time.

Wasps started the second half well in control, Banks and Dodd replaced , Stewart and Smith, and the visitors attack were having little joy against James Rhodes, Kieran Towner and Adam White. However with 15 minutes remaining, Bissaka pulled one back, but Wasps remained in control with the win lifting them above the hosts in a very tight league.

With both sides opting for the lone striker, the early exchanges saw a congested midfield, but as the first half progressed, Wasps Under 15s were gaining the upper hand. A tactical switch saw the home side move to 4-4-2, and within minutes Olly Smith gave Grinstead a deserved lead. Ryan Fenton added a second from a superb corner taken by Alex Moore, and at the break the hosts were looking comfortable with a 2-0 lead.

At the start of the second half , Wasps stepped up a gear, with the lively Josh Smith a constant threat and it was Smith who looked to have made the game safe with a double either side of the hour played. Matty Burroughs scored the fifth after rounding the keeper, and only the woodwork denied the hard working Sam Aldred. Alex Evans had a diving header ruled off-side, and although Orpington grabbed a consolation goal, the Wasps defence , superbly marshalled by James Rhodes, and supported by Adam White, Samuel Stewart, James Pass , Evans and keeper Reece Wickwar looked comfortable to the end.

:: East Grinstead Town U15's 4, Oakwood U15's 5 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
The Under 15s started the match v Oakwood poorly, and handed the visitors a three goal lead before Alex Moore pulled one back.

Trailing 4-1 at half time, captain Matty Burroughs gave the juniors hope with a delicate lob, but Oakwood increased their lead through the prolific Olly Stanton. Charlie Dodd fired home a Wasps penalty and Burroughs claimed his second to set up a pulsating finish.
Oakwood were hanging on at the end but ran out winners by 5 goals to 4.

:: East Grinstead Town U15's 3, Coulsdon Colts U15's 3 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
You must take your chances was the touchline comment when the Wasps juniors entertained Coulsdon Colts, and having squandered 2 clearcut openings in the first fifteen minutes, the visitors rubbed salt in the wound by taking the lead through Panayi.

The hosts bounced back immediately when in form Kieran Towner made no mistake from close range. Kyriakides restored the visitors lead , but the juniors showing superb determination, scored twice through leading scorer Alex Moore. The first came with Moore showing class and confidence beating keeper Richardson from twenty five yards, and then giving Wasps a deserved lead five minutes before the break.

The second half continued with the juniors on top, although again three opportunities to increase the lead were missed. Sean Banks and James Rhodes at the heart of the Wasps defence looked exceedingly comfortable , and with Sam Aldred , Charlie Dodd and Ryan Fenton producing a fine disciplined performance in midfield, the win looked to be a certainty. However with thirty seconds remaining, the visors grabbed a point when an unstoppable volley from Sanders screamed into the top corner.

After the match, it was confirmed Banks, Moore and Dodd had been selected to represent the Tandridge league team v Horsham and District ,at Guildford on Monday evening.

The Wasps juniors opened this seasons County Cup campaign with an away fixture at Hurstpierpoint. Unfortunately, the plucky hosts were no match for the visitors who with crisp passing, good movement and clinical finishing overwhelmed the mid-sussex side by seventeen goals to two. The Wasps scoring was led by new signing, Alex Moore with 4, hat-tricks from captain Matty Burroughs, Kieran Towner, and Olly Smith, 2 from Charlie Dodd, and one each from James Rhodes and David Gardner. The second round tie at the end of October will be a much tougher affair, with Wasps travelling to meet Hastings Youth.

:: Beckenham Youth U15's 1, East Grinstead Town U15's 3 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
On Sunday, East Grinstead Town Under 15s travelled to Catford for their Tandridge league opener against Beckenham Youth.

Wasps opened the scoring when a series of deft one touch passes, starting with Matty Burroughs and David Gardner resulted in Charlie Dodd opening his account with a cool finish. A strong wind and a hard pitch combined to make free flowing football difficult , but the juniors reached half time holding on to a deserved lead.

With the wind at their backs, the hosts started the second half strongly and equalised after 61 minutes when Amerachi gave Wasps keeper, Reece Wickwar, no chance from the edge of the area. With the game in the balance, Wasps dug deep , and with 10 minutes remaining, Sean Banks opened the home defence with an excellent through ball , clinically finished by debutant Alex Moore. The juniors were still not finished, with Josh Smith gaining reward for an aggressive performance grabbing Wasps third with 4 minutes remaining.
