East Grinstead Town's last league game of the season ended in defeat despite a spirited second half performance. The conditions played a part throughout and Wasps struggled against the wind in the first half. Old Town Boys took the lead with their first attack as a quality through ball pierced the Wasps defence.

Keeper Jenner prevented a second with a save from a corner before Pleon had a shot for Wasps. A handball from Thiselton produced a free kick for the hosts which bobbled into the net for the second. As the half wore on Wasps gradually got going and Banks tested the keeper with a fine shot. Good build up play between Pleon and White set up Fletcher whose shot went wide. At the other end excellent defending from Fletcher and Jenner kept Wasps in the game.

The second half saw East Grinstead come out on the attack. A Hole through ball nearly let in Collins and the same player had further chances. A heavy tackle stopped Mann as he went to shoot and Thiselton went close also. Mann had a further chance before sloppy defending brought a third goal.

Town produced a truly five star display to secure the points against a valiant Athletic side. Town's passing and overall team play was the difference and the scoreline reflected the away side's dominance. Mann nearly opened the scoring from the kick off but Town then had to ride their luck as the home side produced three good chances the best of which saw Jenner clearing off the line. Mann then set up Collins but his shot went inches wide. Captain Hole then averted the danger as Athletic threatened.
Soon after coming on Thiselton opened the scoring following fine play from Mann, Collins and Leggett in the build up. A close offside decision denied Town a second before Sawyer blocked a certain equaliser. This proved to be vital as Collins fed Mann who side footed home to make it 2-0. Town asserted themselves again in the second half to deny Athletic a way back into the game. Collins produced a good shot which the keeper blocked before the same player set Mann free. With the defenders beaten, he fired a thunderous half volley into the net for the goal of the game. Athletic replied with a free kick which went just over. Neat play from Fletcher nearly set up White and soon after a Leggett shot from a corner tested the keeper. Town then made it four as Mann pounced on a throw in to nod in his hat trick. Thiselton then released Collins who smacked in a fifth for Town.

Thiselton went close with a bullet header from a Pelling corner whilst Jenner produced a fine reaction save at the other end to keep his clean sheet. With time running out, White set up Sawyer who nearly got the goal his overall display deserved.

Despite the flattering scoreline, Town could have no complaints after a lack lustre second half performance. The game opened with early chances for Mann and Bradley but gradually, the home side used the heavy slope to carve out some chances. The best of the bunch saw United fire wide with an open goal begging. A long through ball set up Mann but he coudn't produce a finish.

Just before half time United took the lead after indecision in the Town defence.

With the advantage of the slope, Collins had an early second half chance before Pleon averted the danger at the other end with a fine last ditch tackle. Fine link up play involving White ended with a Bradley shot before Pleon again saved Town with a great tackle. Soon after however, Town gifted United a second. Town responded with some long range shots the pick of which was a screamer from Sawyer which went inches over. A defensive error ended with a third for the home side and they added a fourth as Town's heads dropped.

The conditions played a vital part in this match as Town surrended a three goal lead to go home with just a point. Despite the boggy pitch Town used the wind to their advantage and were quickly in the lead, Banks firing in a long range shot. Pelling could have made it two with a fine drive before Hole was denied by the crossbar. A handball gave Town a penalty which Leggett calmly despatched into the bottom corner. Further chances fell to Mann, Banks and Leggett before Collins powered in a volley from a Pelling corner. Town were rampant and Mann had two good chances, the second following a fine mazy run by Thiselton. Oak had barely been in the Town half but incredibly, a defensive mix up saw Oak get a goal back.
Despite the driving wind, Town started the second period brightly and were denied a fourth by the linesman. Oak fired a shot over the bar whilst at the other end Banks had a headed chance from a corner. Oak then got a second as a free kick deceived keeper Jenner. Town's back line were now under intense pressure as Oak sought another. From a corner Town just managed to clear the ball off the line but soon after a long range effort flew into the net. With seconds remaining Thiselton nearly won it for Town with a soaring header from a corner but the Oak defence survived.

Town secured a second successive home victory after a hard fought game against a spirited Foresters side. Foresters mounted the first attack but a fine Thiselton tackle averted the danger. Town soon got going and Collins had a one on one with the keeper but the chance went begging. Town's early dominance was rewarded after ten minutes as Banks fed Collins who slotted home past the keeper. Pelling then had a long range shot as Town went for another. Foresters responded well and had a succession of attacks the best of which saw them hit the underside of the bar from a superbly executed free kick. However, Town finished the half the stronger and after Banks shot wide, White had two chances the best of which saw the keeper parry to safety.

The second half began with Town on the attack and Mann was within inches of connecting to a fine cross from White. Hole then moved upfield to hit a long range effort. Mann then pounced on to a loose balll but the keeper smothered. Town nearly made it two but the post denied Collins. Further chances fell to Mann before the visitors responded with some fine attacking play. Town's defence had to dig in as they scrambled away a corner before Foresters broke away and hit the side netting with keeper Jenner committed.

Jenner then tipped away another effort as the visitors smelt an equaliser.

Back came Town though and good chances fell to Mann and Banks but the keeper denied them. At the other end, Jenner produced a fine save which was to prove vital as Town finally got the second goal. Pelling sent in the corner from which first Thiselton and then Banks were denied. Mann finally made sure as his shot went in off the underside of the bar. Town finished the game on the attack and were well worth the three points.

Town produced a fine attacking display as they cruised to a comfortable win.

After some slick early passing, Town went in front courtesy of a stunning strike from Collins from the edge of the box. Collins then turned provider as he set up Banks who cooly slotted the ball past the keeper for two. The visitors went inches wide before a push on Fletcher produced a penalty for Town which Leggett calmly despatched. Leggett then set up Fletcher who flashed a left footer wide of the post. Town then produced the move of their season so far which ended with Leggett firing high into the top corner.

To their credit, Oak came out fighting in the second half and had several chances to reduce the deficit. Gradually, Town got back into the game and Bradley set up Collins for a shot. Further chances fell to Bradley and Fletcher before Mann produced a fine turn and shot which the keeper gathered. Collins then cracked in a fine fifth before nearly completing his hat trick with minutes to spare.

Town produced one of their best performances of the season and were well worth a share of the spoils. Town were nearly behind in the opening minute but keeper Jenner's fine reflex save denied United. Town started to get a foot hold in the game and Mann was inches from scoring after a fine run from Thiselton. A Leggett free kick nearly set up the opener before fine link up play between Mann and Collins ended with a shot from Bradley. At the other end, Jenner again denied United with a good save. Further chances fell to Collins and Fletcher before the United keeper denied Mann with a fine save with his legs. Town then got lucky as United missed an open goal. Soon after, Hole was harshly adjudged to have fouled a United forward and a penalty was awarded. Jenner produced a fine save low to his left and got up to beat away the rebound from point blank range. The miss proved costly as Town took the lead soon after. Fine passing from Leggett and Mann set up Collins whose shot was followed in by Fletcher.

Within minutes of the restart, United were on level terms as a cross come shot drifted into the Town net. Town's response was good and Mann blasted a shot wide. Town's defence was then caught napping as a United forward broke clear. However, Jenner again denied him with a great save. United were really going for the win and a second goal came as a low shot deceived Jenner. Town rode their luck as it nearly became three before Hole fired wide from a corner.

Town were then desperately unlucky as a Collins shot was saved by the United keeper. From the rebound Collins hit the post before Bradley and then Mann nearly converted. Jenner was again called upon as Town started to commit players forward. With minutes remaining, Mann was up ended in the box and Leggett calmly slotted the penalty home for a deserved draw.

Town completed their 2005 fixtures with a hard fought draw which on the balance of play was fair on both teams. After early home pressure Thiselton produced Town's first attack with a fine run and cross. Further attempts followed from Foresters but Town's defence survived. At the other end fine link up play between Thiselton, Mann and Collins produced a corner. Town were then thankful to keeper Jenner as he produced a fine save to prevent a certain goal. Bradley then blocked another effort as Town's defence held firm. Town gradually got into the game and Collins tested the keeper with a shot. Soon after, Banks nearly got on the end of a Pelling free kick but the keeper gathered. A fine pass from Bradley set up Sawyer whose cross was put wide by Banks. Town's best chance of the half then came as first Leggett tested the keeper before Banks fired the rebound over. Thiselton then went close but the teams went in level.

Town started the second half brightly and early chances fell to Banks and Leggett.Jenner then saved Town again as he pushed a goalbound effort over the bar. Collins was then set free but a cruel bobble saw the chance go away. Jenner produced another vital save as the game went from end to end.

Neither side could find the vital goal however and had to settle for a point each.

Town's promotion hopes were dealt a major blow as the visitors came from behind to grab all three points. After a cagey start, Town took the lead with an inch perfect free kick from Leggett. Soon after, it could have been two as Collins rattled the ball against the keeper after neat play from White and Leggett. This stirred the visitors and Pelling scraped the ball off the line to keep the scores level. Jenner then produced a fine save before Boys missed an open goal after good build up play. Further Jenner saves followed before Banks flicked on a Pelling through ball to Collins who dragged his shot wide.

After the break, Jenner again kept Town's lead intact before Leggett nearly scored again from a free kick. Jenner then turned another effort round the post but could do nothing to stop the equaliser which the visitors play fully deserved. Collins produced a shot from a Banks throw but soon after, Boys were in front. Further goals followed to complete a miserable morning for Town.

Town's recent bad luck continued as they totally outplayed the league leaders but still found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreline. After an early Collins effort bobbled wide, Town quickly found themselves two goals behind. Town responded with some fine passing football and Fletcher nearly nudged one back. Then, some good link up play ended with a rasping shot from Bradley which the keeper managed to hold. The pressure continued and Sawyer produced a run and shot which deserved a goal. Soon after, Leggett hit the post from a Pelling free kick as Towns bad luck continued.
Thiselton and Bradley had half chances but Town couldn't get the goal their play warranted.
The second period started with Town again on the front foot and Leggett tested the keeper from a Banks pass. Ridgewaye produced a counter attack but Fletcher denied them with a fine saving tackle. Banks then had a shot blocked and from the rebound the home side made it 3-0. Town refused to give up and shots for White and Bradley followed. A fourth goal came soon after and buoyed by this, the home side really tested the Town defence. To their credit, Town came again and substitute Mann pulled one back with a fine turn and shot. A White flick then set up Collins whose shot clipped the post. A shot for Thiselton followed before Sawyer cracked in a beauty to make it 4-2. Further pressure came from Town but the home side held on for a flattering win.

Having won the recent reverse fixture, Town started confidently against the Tigers, and an early attack down their right flank resulted in a corner. Pelling knocked in a good deep ball which the Tigers’ keeper came for but failed to collect. His defence scrambled the ball away but could do nothing when White broke through in the third minute to score a fine solo goal. Tenterden were stung into their first attack of the game, but Town quickly regained the initiative and first Leggett linked up well with White to create a good chance before Garrett produced a neat through ball for Collins who was unfortunately adjudged to be marginally off-side. Two minutes later, another Garrett cross created disarray in the Tigers’ goal mouth, but the ball was finally scrambled away. This set the pattern for the next few minutes play, but having ridden their luck, Tigers broke down their right hand side and scored an equaliser after 18 minutes. Two minutes later, however, Town were back in front. First Garrett tested the Tigers’ keeper, then Leggett scored after good build up play on the left. With the half ticking down, Tenterden started to impose themselves and, seconds before the half time whistle, scored an equaliser.

The second half started with Tigers still in the ascendancy, and only an excellent save from Jenner in the Town goal prevented the away side from taking the lead. A Town free kick relieved the pressure, and yet another scramble in the Tigers’ goal mouth could have resulted in a Town goal, but as it was Tigers went ahead after 11 minutes of the half when a shot which Jenner had shaped to deal with was cruelly deflected past him. Town fought back well and subjected the Tigers goal to several crosses and shots which, on another occasion, might well have produced a goal. The visitors held out however and then launched a breakaway move which resulted in their fourth goal. Shortly after this, a very heavy tackle by a Tigers player resulted in his sending off and Town quickly made their numerical advantage pay off. With 10 minutes to go, Collins brought Town back into the game with a well taken goal. Garrett then jinked through the visitors’ defence and fed Collins again, only for the Tigers goalkeeper to save bravely at his feet, and other chances came and went before Tenterden rallied and forced a corner which was headed over the Town’s crossbar. In the closing minutes, Tenterden could have extended their lead but for a great effort by Jenner who did just enough to put the visitors’ forward off his shot.

Town produced a goalfeast as they totally outplayed their opponents on a barely playable pitch in driving wind and rain. Town clicked straight into gear and a fine Garrett cross produced the first opening. Within five minutes Collins shot Town into the lead and they continued to dominate with some fine play. The second goal eventually came as Mann netted following a fine effort from White. White then got on to the scoresheet with a fine turn and shot past the hapless keeper. Leggett made it four with a long range effort before Collins followed up a Garrett shot to make it five. Thiselton then combined with Garrett and his run ended with a fine finish to make it six.

Town came out for the second period eager to bolster their goal difference and fine shots from Garrett, Pelling and Hole nearly increased the lead.

Finally, a Pelling piledriver was parried by the keeper and Bradley followed up to make it seven. Garrett then got in the act with a cracking left footer beforeThiselton scored again after a mazy run. Burgess was desperately unlucky but shortly after Mann made it ten. Leggett poked in another before White set up Thiselton for his hat trick. On the whistle, rampant Town made it unlucky thirteen for Brook as Collins cracked in a fine shot for his hat trick.

Sussex County Cup

Town produced a very creditable performance in windy conditions against their Sussex Sunday League opponents in the County Cup. After a great first half performance where Town more than matched Cosmos they were unlucky to go in 1-0 down. The home side had the first chance before Collins sent a snap shot high over the bar. Good defending by Pleon and Hole halted good Cosmos attacks whilst at the other end a Pelling free kick went wide. Town then forced a corner and from it, Banks had a shot saved by the keeper. Unluckily for Town, Banks was then forced off with a rib injury. Soon after, Thiselton nearly opened the scoring but his fine left footer hit the bar. The next attack saw Cosmos take a fortunate lead before Jenner thwarted another attack with a fine save. Town finished the half on the attack with a Pelling free kick. Cuckfield started the second half stronger and two early goals sunk Town.

Town's cause wasn't helped by further injuries to Thiselton and Pleon and more goals followed without response to give the home side a flattering win.

CROWBOROUGH & DISTRICT JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE CUP

Town were cruelly denied a place in the next round after dominating much of the match against their high flying Division A opponents. Town had the best of the early play and were rewarded with a goal courtesy of White after fine build up play by Garrett and Fletcher. Colts gradually got into the game and great defensive work by Pleon and Pelling kept them at bay. However, Town could do nothing as Colts scored with a tremendous free kick. Town quickly got back in their stride and a great run by Banks ended with Collins firing over. Further chances fell to Garrett, Fletcher and Banks as Town finished the half on top.

Colts came out for the second half with all guns blazing and a shot whistled just wide. A dazzling run from Garrett relieved the pressure but Fletcher couldn't find a finish. Garrett then sent in a lovely cross which just evaded White. Colts responded and Hole blocked a goalbound effort. Town took the lead following a foul on Bradley. Quick thinking by Thiselton put Banks in and he calmly beat the keeper. From the restart Garrett tested the keeper with a stinging shot. The lead was short lived however as a deflected shot beat Burgess. Suddenly Town were 3-2 down as Hole was adjudged to have fouled a Colts forward and the penalty was converted. Town bravely came back and after a succession of corners captain Pleon prodded home the equaliser. Town were now sensing the win and first, Garrett was denied by the keepers legs before a Leggett effort was kicked off the line.

Extra time saw Town on top again and Mann had two good chances before winning a penalty. Agonisingly for Town, Leggett's shot hit the post. From the restart, Banks had a fine run before Thiselton cleared off the line at the other end.

A defensive mix up saw Colts take the lead and a fifth followed at the death with Town doing everything to level.

Town were denied top spot in the league after a fine individual performance early in the second half saw them concede five times in a thrilling game.

Town started the better and within minutes could have been two goals to the good. Mann missed a great chance from a Garrett pass before Collins scored a delightful goal from a long throw by Banks. Ridgewaye gradually got going but Town were playing most of the football. Neat passing ended with a Garrett shot which the keeper saved. Further efforts followed before the away side levelled after poor defensive play by Town. With half time approaching, Town got their noses in front again as Garrett netted from close range after the keeper spilled a Pelling drive. Pelling had further efforts before poor control denied Ridgewaye the chance to equalise.

As the players went in for the break, no one could have predicted that Town would concede five times in ten minutes as the Ridgewaye number nine produced a breathtaking passage of play scoring four of the goals. Town were shellshocked but gradually cleared their heads. To their credit, two goals followed for Garrett and White as Town finished the stronger.

Town took their 100% record to Tenterden Tigers and after a hard struggle came away with their fourth league victory. Tigers settled more quickly and launched an attack which was broken up by Thistleton. Garrett and Collins then exchanged passes before forcing a corner on the left from which Hole fired narrowly over the bar. Tigers responded with a five minute spell during which they looked particularly dangerous, being denied a goal by an offside decision, a string of good saves by Jenner, and stout defending by East Grinstead’s back four. Garrett relieved the pressure with a tricky run down the left flank before Banks put Collins in for Town’s first goal.

Tigers reacted by launching further attacks, before a nicely waited through-ball from midfield gave Leggett the opportunity for a firmly hit shot, which was just stopped by Tigers’ keeper. The play switched from end to end as first Tigers’ strikers and then Collins, Banks and Sawyer for Town, all shot just wide. Midway through the half, Tigers’ pressure told and, after scoring an equaliser, they looked odds-on to take the lead when they broke away only for Jenner to pull off another excellent stop. As the first half drew to a close, Town had the opportunity to take the lead, but a goal-line clearance left the score 1:1 at half time.

The second half commenced in a similar “ebb and flow” manner, before Bradley put Town in front again. Town could have gone further ahead if Pelling’s fierce free kick had dipped slightly more, or crosses from both flanks had squeezed through a crowded Tigers’ goal mouth, but the home side came again, forcing Banks to head out. Tigers equalised late in the half, but Town are no longer a side to settle for drawn matches, and Mann latched on to a through ball to secure Town’s third goal, leaving them to face a nervous few minutes before the final whistle

Town sent a clear message to their rivals with a comprehensive victory over Jarvis Brook. The home side totally dominated the match and but for the Brook keeper, the scoreline would have been even more convincing. Town set out their stall early on and a powerful run by Collins ended with a fine save from a volley by Leggett. Further chances fell to Collins and Leggett before neat passing and movement ended with a Banks strike that went inches over. Sawyer then produced a fine shot which the keeper tipped over. Town continued to press and at last got their reward as Collins drilled home after a goalbound effort from Banks was kicked off the line. Town were rampant and more chances followed, the pick of which fell to Collins who was denied by the keeper.
The second half started with an early chance for Garrett who fired over the bar. Pelling then put Banks in but his effort was kicked away by the keeper.
Town continued to create chances but the vital second goal evaded them.
Brook then had a rare attack but Thiselton tidied up the danger. Soon after, Town at last got the second as Collins broke through the Brook defence and side footed home. Town sensed more goals and defenders Thiselton and Hole both had shots following fine runs. Leggett then produced a superb finish to make it three. Mann came on and thumped a shot against the keeper before Banks had an effort saved. Fine passing between Sawyer and White set up Collins whose shot was saved. Bradley followed up to make it 4-0.

Town secured another three points as they deservedly overcame a dogged Crowborough side. Town's first half football was a delight to watch and the only surprise was that they only had one goal to show for their efforts despite creating a hatful of scoring opportunities. Early chances fell to Banks and Pelling before Leggett headed a Banks throw wide. The visitors rarely threatened but their first attack ended with a shot across the face of the Town goal. Hole then set Garrett free whose cross was fired over by Sawyer. Leggett went close on several occassions but the keeper kept him at bay. In between, Bradley fired over from a corner. Banks then had another shot before Town finally got the goal on the stroke of half time as Garrett pounced from close range.
Into the second period and Mann had an early shot gathered by the keeper.
Then, Pleon nearly deceived the keeper with a shot come cross. The keeper again came to visitors rescue as he touched away a goalbound Garrett shot.
Athletic then dragged themselves level with a thunderous shot which brought applause from both sets of supporters. Town looked rattled but they gradually battled back. Sawyer and Pelling both had chances before the latter set up White who lobbed the keeper to put Town back in front. Thiselton then produced a fine run and shot before White was denied by the crossbar from a Leggett cross. Further chances fell to Town as they finished in complete control.

Town got their league campaign off to the perfect start in their bid to bounce straight back to the top flight. Town dominated the first half and early chances fell to Banks and Pelling. The home side then took the lead with their first attack as a cross was swept into the net. Town kept passing the ball well and further attempts came from Mann and Banks before debutant Thiselton glanced a header wide from a Pelling free kick. Town forced several corners but the home side somehow kept their lead intact. Town were nearly caught out just before half time but the post saved them.
Town's pressure continued at the start of the second period as they attempted to get back on level terms. Leggett had two shots saved before the keeper kicked away a Mann effort. Garrett then produced a fine run but his shot went over the bar. Then, Banks sent a header over from a Pelling cross.
Soon after, the excellent Bradley set up Mann but again the keeper denied him. Two corners followed and from the second Thiselton volleyed in a fine equaliser. Town took full advantage and within minutes Leggett's super cross was side footed home by Mann. Further efforts followed from Bradley, Sawyer and Leggett as the visitors looked to seal the points. However, the home side battled back and Jenner produced a fine save to keep Town's lead intact. Then, the vital third goal came as Garrett set up White who calmly flicked the ball home. White nearly doubled his tally with a fine run and shot whilst at the death Town cleared an effort off the line to ensure the points were won.
