A point was enough for Town to secure promotion in what was a pretty one sided game but again Towns frailties in front of goal came to light.

Town started strongly with the midfield of Power, Clift and Howat setting up both Tingley and Jakeman but their chances were both put over the bar.

The visitors only had a long ball but twice they caught Towns defence unawares and it was left to keeper Aaron Baston to sweep up with some brave keeping down at the strikers feet.

The second half was much the same with Dilek, Howell, French and Jack Benniman keeping things tight at the back allowing the midfield to create the chances and Town were denied a stone wall penalty when McManus was hacked down in the area but the official chose to ignore i. This only spurred Town on and there was only one side in it with Town being denied a further twice by goal line clearances with Davis and Daunt both going close as Heath held on for a draw.

Town now go in to their last game of the season having to win by a clear nine goals to snatch the title a tall order but stranger things have happened in football.

Town returned to winning ways in what was a must win game to keep their championship hopes alive. Town took the lead after fifteen minutes when Captain Zak Howell met an in swinging corner from Lewis Power to glance his header in to the far corner.

Roffey battled as always and levelled the scores within minutes when some good wing play saw the cross bundled in to the net by the oncoming striker giving keeper Baston no chance. Ben Howat saw a free kick go close for Town but the scores were level at half time.

Town were treading water for the next twenty minutes making a handful of chances but not converting any of them until a change in tactics saw Town switch to a traditional 4-4-2 and Tingley and McManus up front caused the opposition all kinds of problems.

With their running off the ball in to the channels it left spaces down the middle and it was Alex Jakeman who restored the lead when he thumped home from inside the penalty area.

At the back Town were solid with Aaron Baston and Jack Benniman having faultless displays the latter being replaced by Tom Daunt due to injury and being ablely assisted by Connor French and Rob Creek. This led to the ball moving through midfield with Aiden Clift and Luke Fitzgerald and it was a through ball that saw Town score their third when McManus latched on to it and calmly taking it round the keeper to make it three.

Town saw one last chance go begging when Power roasted his full back for the umpteenth time and crossed for the marauding Ben Davis whose shot lacked any conviction and the keeper was able to save.

Town returned to winning ways after a slow start to 2012 and captain Zak Howell showed them the way to go with a 25 yard screamer in the first few minutes of the game. Town poked and prodded the Panthers defence and for some better finishing could have been out of reach by half time but their nervousness in front of goal prevented any more scoring before the break.

Town started brightly again in the second half and had the opposition on the back foot with their neat passing game on a sticky bobbly pitch and eventually scored their second when Ben Howatt scored direct from a free kick to relieve the pressure on the home crowd and coaching staff.

Keeper Aaron Baston had little to do apart from intercept a few long balls and Dogan and Rob Creek looked solid at the back, Town switched their formation after the hard working Tom Daunt needed to be replaced by Connor French due to some breathing problems. This allowed Lewis Power up front alongside Ben Davies and it was their pace that upset St Pauls and allowed Alex Jakeman to slot home Towns third with a cool finish.

Jack Benniman nearly added a fourth after linking up with Aidan Clift and Matty Meek but spooned his effort over from four yards, very reminiscent of a certain £50m forward. All in all Town deserved the three points as they chase a league and cup double.

Town kept up their unbeaten run and stay top of the table after a hard fought comeback against Roffey on a windswept bobbly surface but they sure made hard work of it going two behind in the first ten minutes.

Roffey started the brightest and some poor marking and general decision making saw Town go behind in the first minute when the striker was left unattended and though keeper Aaron Baston got a strong hand to it he couldn’t prevent it dropping under the cross bar. Town never learnt from this error and soon the hosts were two up when everyone stopped waiting for a linesman’s flag but the ref played on and the striker slotted home.

Town slowly recovered and just before half time Aiden Clift managed to pull one back with a great solo effort which meant they were back in the game and ready for a second half battle.

A strong half time chat saw a couple of changes made with Rob Creek coming on at right back and Matty Meek pushing alongside Tingley upfront. Within minutes Town started playing like a top team and had made it two all when Howat and Power combined to set Harry Tingley up for the equalizer.

It was now all Grinstead and they dominated the Roffey half with Tom Daunt sitting in front of the two center halves it allowed Zak Howell to stride through the center of the park and his strength and passing caused problems all day for the opposition. Town finally took the lead with 10 minutes to go when some great running by Harry McManus saw his cross turned in at the back post by Meek.

Town were starting to enjoy themselves now and the fourth goal was as good as you get with the ball being interchanged between Lewis Power, Aiden Clift and Ben Howat. Roffey had no answer to their skills and the resulting ball found Meek again at the back post to slot home his second. Roffey kept going and it was down to Dilek and Benniman to keep the back tight with Ridley filling in midfield and Baston mopping up any loose balls that came over the top. All in all another good win as Town now go 6 league games without dropping a point.

:: Broadbridge Heath U14's 1, East Grinstead Town U14's 3 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
Town travelled to their opponents full of confidence and remained top and unbeaten in the league after a solid team performance, Town started the first half slowly and with Heath playing five at the back and four in midfield Wasps found it hard to gain any penetration in the first fifteen minutes. Finally Wasps broke through twice in two minutes with both Clift and Tingley both having shots saved by the hosts keeper but that was all the action in a drab first half.

Wasps changed their formation around at half time with Power switching back to the left hand side and Daunt taking up a holding role in midfield immediately Town were rewarded when some good play found the ball at Lewis Powers' feet and his shot was too hot to handle for the keeper to put Town in front.

Wasps made it two shortly after when McManus crossed and this time Powers' back flick sneaked into the empty net. It was all Grinstead with both Fitzgerald and Creek exploiting gaps down the right hand side. Heath could only foul to thwart Town's progress and Howatt punished them when he fired home from twenty five yards out direct from a free kick.

Heath pulled back a consolation near the end when some sloppy defending gifted them a goal but Grinstead stay top and unbeaten as they move towards the Christmas period.

Daunting task overcome

Cup fever is on the minds of Towns under 14s after they overcame a tricky quarter final away in Surrey.

Town started the brightest passing the ball around neatly on the leaf covered sloping, undulating village green but could not convert any of their chances. The hosts were a big physical team who had a long ball over the top and a Rory Delap style of throw as their main weapons and it was the former that created their first goal when a simple long ball over the top caught Town's back four square and the 6ft striker beat Aaron Baston in a one on one.

Town rallied straight away and from the kick off some nice interchanging between the dangerous Lewis Power and Aiden Clift saw Luke Fitzgerald finish at the back post to even things up before half time.

At half time Town made a change with Davis coming on for Dilek to add an extra bit of pace to counteract the long ball over the top but it was the second change that was the inspired one with Tom Daunt being sent on by manager Jones after about ten minutes and with his first touch he met a corner with a bullet header in to the top corner to give Town the lead.

Town continued to play their passing game and with Zak Howell, Jack Benniman and Rob Creek all putting in sterling efforts at the back it was the midfield creativity of AJ and Howatt that created chances for the tireless running of Harry Tingley up front who literally run his socks off for the team but without hitting the back of the net.

Town then suffered a moment of indecision at the back and the hosts punished them with a undeserved equalizer with just ten minutes left, but it was super sub Daunt who clinched the winner when he swiveled in the box and crashed a left foot volley in to the top corner as the clock was running down to extra time and penalties.

There was one last scare for Town as the Colts launched their predictable ball over the top it skidded on and it took a brave one on one save with his legs by keeper Aaron Baston to wrap the tie up for Town who now move on to their second semi final in two seasons.

Town stay top of the league with four wins out of four after a hard fought battle against a tough opposition. The first half saw little in way of goals though Town had most of the possession the visitors defence remained solid allowing Town a few shots from distance.

Town came out in the second half with the same enthusiasm and soon punished a poor goal kick. Clift won the ball in midfield and played it out left to Power who delivered a pin point cross for Tom Daunt to arrive at the back post and side foot home.

Town were now in the ascendancy with Benniman and Power linking up well down the left it created space for Zak Howell and Alex Jakeman to control the middle. Harry Tingley played the lone man up front and his lay off saw Aiden Clift run through to slot home for Town's second.

Town carried on playing their football but a lack of concentration at the back by Dilek saw goalkeeper Aaron Baston faced with his first job of the day as the opposition striker was left with a one on one. Though Baston got his feet to it the ball squirmed in to the net off the far post.

Town reacted accordingly and with their next attack Ben Howatt found his way in to the box and Cooley finished past the keeper to secure all three points in what was a good game against a strong opposition.

Town carried their good league form into the cup matches and progressed in to the Quarter finals with a convincing win against their Horsham counterparts.

Keeper Baston was again unavailable so two of the outfield players shared goalkeeping duties with Tingley going between the sticks first. Town started quickly and were three nil up within ten minutes with Mcmanus, Power and Meek all finding the back of the net to put the game safe. Jakeman added a fourth just before half time but United never gave up and got a goal back after a mistake by the stand in keeper Power just after the interval. Town pushed forward and increased their lead again when Aiden Clift finished well to make it 5-1, again United pulled another two back to make it an interesting finish but Town rallied and made no mistake as McManus claimed his second and then captain Zak Howell scored from the half way line with a speculative effort that bounced over the keepers head and in to an empty net.

Town went into this game top of the league and after a hard fought battle they remained there still unbeaten after the first three games of the season, the home side started brightly but Town contained their enthusiastic long ball over the top with some good communication from keeper Baston and defenders Howell and Dilek.

Once Town got the ball down and played their football they started to dominate with full backs Benniman and Creek both backing up Davis and Power on the wings, in the middle Howat, Jakeman and Clift were winning their battle and it was no surprise when Town took the lead with Lewis Powers scorcher finding the back of the net from an acute angle.

Town went in to the second half with the same positive attitude and the hard working McManus and Tingley kept the Hurst defence under pressure before Aiden Clift finished off a great move by slotting Towns second in to the far corner.

Ridley replaced the ill Ben Davis and immediately got in to the battle with the oppositions midfield winning the ball back for Town to create a further couple of chances that were not taken, at the other end a lapse in concentration saw Hurst break through but a superb strong one handed save from Aaron Baston only ended in a corner for the home side.

With fifteen minutes to go the game changed when Town were reduced to ten men and Hurst piled the pressure on, Grinstead stood firm until five minutes to go when Hurst managed to pull one back and then threatened twice more as the game went in to a long spell of added time, finally the official blew his whistle and Town took all three points back to East Court.

:: East Grinstead Town U14's 6, Maidenbower U14's 2 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
Town maintained their good start with a comfortable victory over their Crawley based opponents , Town started sharply with Harry Tingley bursting through from the first attack to slot the ball home and give the hosts a perfect start.

Town maintained their pressure and made it two nil half way through the first half when Aiden Clift tucked home a shot on the run into the bottom corner, from this Grinstead took their foot of the gas and Maidenbower got back in to the game with their lively winger causing problems down Towns right hand side and it was only some good handling in goal from Aaron Baston that kept a clean sheet up to half time.

Town increased their lead after the break when a great near post corner from Lewis Power was glanced in at the near post by Ben Howatt, again Maidenbower came back and after some strong defending from Zak Howell and Tom Daunt they got their reward with a peach of a shot that found its way to the top corner.

Town turned up the heat and Howatt got his second of the match when he struck home a direct free kick from the edge of the box , Clift got his second shortly after as he made it five after beating the full back for pace and rifling a shot home this was minutes after he had fluffed a penalty kick in to the keepers hands , the opposition came back once more to pick up a second but Grinstead finished the game off when Alex Jakeman found the top corner in the dying minutes all in all a solid team performance which sees Town sit at the top of the league as early pace setters.

:: Lower Beeding U14's 0, East Grinstead Town U14's 2 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
East Grinstead Town under 14s travelled to Lower Beeding for their first league game of the season with a seriously depleted squad due to injuries and unavailability but they put in a strong solid performance to secure the three points.

Goalkeeper Aaron Baston broke his finger in a friendly last week, new signing Lewis Power also picked up a serious looking injury in the same match whilst Zak Howell came back from holiday injured. This led to a shuffle around with Tingley going in goal, Creek, Davis, Dilek and Daunt organising the back four.

In midfield Town started with Mcmanus on one side with Ridley and A Jakeman in the middle and Benniman on the left this allowed Clift and S Jakeman to attack from the front.

Town started the game confidently and played the ball around nicely going close on occasions but it was twenty minutes in to the game when Town got their slice of luck a cross was floated in to the box where S Jakeman was pushed while challenging for the ball and Town were awarded a penalty, Clift stepped up and slotted the ball in to the bottom left corner .

Town kept on chipping away and some great individual skill from S Jakeman saw Town take a two nil lead as he swiveled on the edge of the box before unleashing an unstoppable shot in to the net.

The second half saw Town come close again with Baston coming on as sub up front a nice couple little layoffs saw A Jakeman go close on a couple of occasions.

Town looked solid at the back with Daunt and Dilek dominant in the air whilst Creek and Davis used their pace and tackling to good effect , the midfield worked hard as always with Ridley winning the ball for AJ and both Benniman and McManus working the wings well.

Stand in keeper Tingley had little to do but what he did he did do he done well and the whole team can be proud of their efforts on the opening day of a season that promises some good times ahead.

Team : Tingley, Creek, Dilek , Davis, Daunt, McManus, A Jakeman, Ridley, Benniman, Clift , S Jakeman, Baston
