East Grinstead demonstrated their never say die spirit as they came from two goals down to grab a point in a 2-2 draw against Three Bridges. Indeed EGTFC were unlucky not to grab all three points.
A slow start from EGTFC was capitalised upon by Three Bridges who's lively forward beat two defenders and coolly slotted home. The same striker was a continual threat to East Grinstead Town in the first half and his through ball was not dealt with by the Wasps keeper who hesitated in making his clearance which ricocheted back into the path of their striker who added his second - a touch fortunate. However, Wasps were not out of this game and as Town turned up the heat Three Bridges began to melt as they conceded an own goal from the hard working Callum Tocher.
The second half saw a strong performance from all the players however special mention should go to Fraser Hunt and Nicholas Karaolis who kept the Bridges strike force quiet. Lewis Caruana also stepped up to the plate along with Jamie Green in midfield. It was Green who put Tocher through as he crept in behind the Bridges defence and was brought down as he was about to shoot - a clear cut penalty. Green stepped up and scored from the spot to bring the scores level at 2-2.
For the last ten minutes it was all East Grinstead as they bombarded the Bridges goal and with a little more composure they should have taken all three points. However, a good battling display to come back from two goals down bodes well for the future.

Having secured their place in the Horsham 'A' division for next season EGTFC took the game to the league leaders, Roffey Robins, and despite EGTFC conceding an early goal they bounced back to show that they are a dangerous team on the break. Two quick goals from Nick Karaolis rattled Roffey and East Grinstead were unlucky to add a third having dictated most of the play in the first half with a strong captain's performance from Jamie Green in defence. Indeed EGTFC were surprised to go in at half time 2-3 down as first a lucky bounce bobbled over the normally reliable Tommy Dixon in goal, and then a scrambled goal from a corner extended Roffey's lead.
For the first 15 minutes of the second half EGTFC controlled the game and chances came and went for the Wasps. However, Roffey then raised the tempo and put EGTFC under pressure scoring three quick goals, one of which was a great curling shot into the top left corner. Despite some late pressure from Grinstead and a dubious off side decision given against them the Wasps they could not close the gap and Roffey just about deserved their 5-2 win although the score line was flattering.
A good game played in a great spirit which showed that EGTFC are closing the gap on the league leaders, if such a gap exists!

East Grinstead took their time to come to terms with the conditions - a sticky pitch, strong winds, a slope and a low sun! However they eventually out battled Horsham for a deserved win.
A powerful strike from Danny Byrne midway through the first half left the Horsham keeper stranded as Grinstead went one up however some poor marking at the back allowed Horsham to quickly equalise. From the kick off we then saw one of the most spectacular goals of the season as the ball was laid back to Byrne his powerful shot from inside his own half left all the supporters gasping as it rocketed into the top corner giving Grinstead a 2-1 lead at half time.
Horsham were not out of this game and in the second half they soon equalised from a long ball that the Wasps defence failed to deal with. As Wasps settled into their passing game more chances came there way but they were stopped by a confident Horsham keeper however he was unable to stop a Jamie Green effort as Wasps moved into the ascendancy to go 3-2 up. This match was now ebbing and flowing between the two teams and it was no surprise to see Horsham score from the long ball again. Wasps then withstood a period of pressure from Horsham with some great goal keeping from Tommy Dixon and some strong defending from Fraser Hunt and Toby Sawyer.
Wasps then took control as a header from Byrne completed a well taken hat trick and then a cool strike from Tocher put Wasps 5-3 up. However, again some poor defending, this time from Karaolis, allowed Horsham to score with a late strike making it 5-4. A nervous last five minutes saw East Grinstead withstand a free kick and two corners. Then a superb save from Dixon on the edge of the penalty area saw East Grinstead cross the finishing line and almost secure their position in Division 'A' of the Horsham League for next season with four games remaining, with a top four position a possibility.
Plenty to work on but a good double over Horsham.

East Grinstead were slow to start in this match and they created few chances in a first half performance that was probably best forgotten. Dorkinians goal coming from a mistake from the Wasps keeper Tommy Dixon. However, it was Dixon who was to be the turning point in the Wasps come back in the second half.
A harsh penalty awarded to Dorkinians was brilliantly saved by Dixon and as the ball rolled out to the Dorkinians forward he pulled off another outstanding save to keep the Wasps in the match. Dixon followed up with two more world class saves which lifted the EGTFC team, and they now raised their game and outplayed Dorkinians with a blistering second half performance of attacking football.
Wasps speed, strength and stamina began to tell and despite not being awarded a blatant penalty, having a goal disallowed for no apparent reason, and numerous offsides going against them, they managed to keep their heads and create some excellent chances. Rhys White and Jamie Green again linked up well and it was White's through ball to Tocher who finished with some style for the equaliser. As Town piled on the pressure the ball broke to White in the penalty box and he managed to squeeze the ball past the Dorkinians keeper to give EGTFC the lead. Probably, the move of the match saw Green pass out wide to Byrne whose pinpoint cross picked out Fletcher who's scorching header found the top corner. Dorkinians did manage a scrambled late goal but EGTFC held on firm and ran out worthy winners.

East Grinstead booked their place in the final of the Horsham and District League cup by overcoming Storrington in a pulsating semi final.
Wasps were quickly out of the blocks and they put in a superb first half performance. A strong defensive display assisted by a hard working midfield created a number of early chances and it was no surprise to see the Wasps go one up as a thunderous effort from Karaolis could only be parried away into the path of Tocher, who slotted the ball home. Storrington were then put under considerable pressure by East Grinstead Town for the rest of the half and their hard work was rewarded with a header from Louis Caruana from a Danny Byrne corner. However, EGTFC then failed to take several chances and they were stunned by a goal from Storrington on the stroke of half time from their only chance.
The goal seemed to fill Storrington with confidence and belief, as they came out a different team in the second period, putting the Wasps under considerable pressure for the opening twenty minutes. However the Wasps were always a threat on the break and two great chances fell to Tocher only for the ball to go agonisingly past the post on both occasions. The Wasps fitness now came into play and their captain Jamie Green, leading by example, started to drive at the Storrington defence and it was his through ball that found Scott Fletcher who hit the back of the net to make it 3-1 and settle the supporter's nerves.
East Grinstead deserved their win and are now looking forward to their final against local rivals Ashurstwood at Broadbridge Heath Stadium on Saturday 26th April kick off at 12.00pm

This was a very close encounter of the third kind this season with Ockley just holding on to steal all the points. [Match photos courtesy of Meridian Sport]
Ockley were looking for revenge after their cup exit at the hands of East Grinstead and they were fortunate to go ahead after two minutes when Karaolis managed to get in a great challenge on the powerful Ockley forward only to see his clearance take a wicked deflection and fly past the helpless Wasps keeper into the top corner.
Chances came and went for both sides in the first half and EGTFC were unfortunate not to equalise after getting themselves into good positions only to see the Ockley linesman repeatedly flag them for offside. Strong performances from Axten and Sawyer in defence helped to keep Wasps in the game.
There was more of an edge to the Wasps performance in the second half and as Jamie Green and Nick Karaolis took charge of the midfield they began to open up the Ockley defence and it was Fletcher who latched onto a through ball to score the equaliser. However, Ockley always looked dangerous and their speedy winger went on a solo run and finished with some style. However EGTFC were soon back in the match as Daniel Byrne latched onto a Green though ball to equalise.
It would be fair to say that EGTFC should have wrapped up the game at this stage as two goal line clearances and a simple tap in from six yards which was skied over the cross bar were eventually to lead to Wasps downfall as they failed to take the best chances of the game.
With ten minutes to go Ockley broke down the right and a speculative shot with no real power seemed to find its way under the Wasps keeper and into the net much to the surprise of the Ockley team.
However, Wasps never gave up and the powerful running by Byrne on the left wing was always a threat. With seconds to go a fine though ball by Louis Caruana found Callum Tocher just inside the Ockley half and as he outpaced the Ockley defence he took one touch too many allowing the keeper to make a last ditch save as Ockley ran out to be fortunate winners.
A game that the Wasps should ultimately have won but for a little more composure in front of goal.

| :: Roffey Robins Under 13s 4, East Grinstead Town Under 13s 0 :: |
The difference between the two teams here was the determination of Roffey to close space down, and when in possession to pass the ball around quickly with a good first touch and with plenty of movement from all of their players playing as a team - a lesson that should be learnt by EGTFC.
Although the pitch was one of the worst we have played on it was the same for both teams and the Wasps failed to adapt. Roffey took their chances well in the first half to take a 2-0 half time lead with the Wasps creating few oppounities - the only shot coming from a Karaolis free kick which missed the target - a testament to the strong defence of Roffey as they are the only team that the Wasps have failed to score against this season.
The second half saw Grinstead battle more of for the ball and a slick passing move out of defence led to Karaolis shooting just over the crossbar. Daniel Axten had his hands full against the Roffey attack but put in a strong performance as did Sam Davies whose effort and determination were an example to everyone. Roffey added two more goals as they played the ball out wide. The last 20 minutes saw EGTFC take the game more to Roffey and the Wasps squandered a couple of chances however it was never going to be enough against a very well organised Roffey Robins - a lot to learn from at training on Tuesday.

EGTFC seemed to freeze at the start of this match and it had nothing to do with the weather!
A slow start and a lack lustre performance by EGTFC saw the Wasps deservedly go two goals down as Cranleigh turned up the heat and put the East Grinstead defence under pressure. However, EGTFC can win ugly and as they began to string some passes together they started to unlock the Cranleigh defence. Twice the Wasps hit the post through Daniel Byrne and Nicholas Karaolis, and when Rhys White was put though and brought down by the keeper it was an easy decision for the referee to award a penalty which White duly converted leaving EGTFC fortunate to go in only 2-1 down at half time after being outplayed.
The second half saw a complete turnaround as the Wasps defence finally settled with a good performance from Daniel Axten, and with Jamie Green controlling the midfield the Wasps began to dictate the play.
First it was Lewis Caruana who scored with a spectacular volley from a cross and then Green scored after the ball was laid back by Byrne. Confidence fed throughout the team as Caruana added to his tally with a neatly taken goal. Further goals from Karaolis and Fletcher put East Grinstead into a comfortable lead and Caruana just missed out on his hat trick. However, Cranleigh were always a threat on the break and some sloppy defending from a corner saw Cranleigh score. EGTFC held their nerve for the last ten minutes and were unlucky not to add to their tally and deservedly ran out 6-3 winners.

In a keenly contested quarter final it was East Grinstead Town who moved into the Horsham & District League semi-finals with goals coming from Callum Tocher and Scott Fletcher in the first half with well taken strikes. However, East Grinstead allowed Henfield back into the match and an error from the Wasps keeper gifted Henfield a goal. EGTFC should have added to their first half tally but were denied by the Henfield keeper.
In the second half EGTFC raised their game and began to battle more for the ball allowing them more possession. A fine through ball by Jamie Green saw Daniel Byrne rifle the ball into the bottom corner and further goals from Fletcher and Karaolis sealed the game - a late consolation goal from Henfield was no more than they deserved as they had put East Grinstead Town under pressure at certain points in the game.

East Grinstead put in a devastating performance in the second half to knock out last year's champions Ockley Acorns; however EGTFC did not have it all their own way.
Wasps settled into their game early on and deservedly went ahead through Callum Tocher with a well taken goal however Ockley quickly raised their game and hit three goals in a blistering ten minute period leaving the home fans shell shocked. Wasps began to show their inner strength with Tocher latching onto Rhys Whites through ball to round the keeper and score. However, another lapse in the Wasps defence saw Ockley take a 4-2 lead into half time.
A change in formation at half time saw EGTFC take the game to Ockley and after a hard fought opening 15 minutes EGTFC's stamina came into play as they out battled a physical Ockley team and secured more possession. This gave the midfield more control of the game and they began to open up the Ockley defence with goals coming from Fletcher, an overhead kick from Jamie Green, and a third for hat trick hero Callum Tocher.
Nick Karaolis put in another consistently strong performance and scored after beating three players and hitting the top corner. However, the pick of the goals was probably the last one from White who picked up the ball inside his own half, shrugging off two challenges, and then ran the length of the pitch to score. A fantastic second half performance which drew praise from the Ockley manager especially the Wasps strength of character. Every player played their part in a well deserved victory.

| :: East Grinstead Town Under 13's 3, Southwater Under 13's 3 :: |

An exciting game in the Horsham A division which saw the game ebb and flow until the final whistle.
Another slow start from EGTFC saw them offer their opponents a belated Christmas present as they lost possession in midfield. Southwater did not need a second chance to take advantage and they scored with a neat move and a good finish. As EGTFC battled for the ball they gained more possession and Scott Fletcher got onto the end of a deep cross from Daniel Byrne but unfortunately saw his header hit the crossbar and bounce back into the arms of the keeper. However, there was no doubt about the equaliser on the stroke of half time as the Wasps were awarded a free kick a fully 40 yards out. A powerful shot of Premiership standard saw Nick Karaolis score with a spectacular goal that found the top corner leaving the players and spectators stunned, even the officials!
After shaking off the excesses of Christmas East Grinstead began to get into the groove as the midfield duo of Jamie Green and Rhys White were now supported by Karaolis playing a more forward position. However, it was Southwater who scored against the run of play, the ball falling to the Southwater striker who scored with a simple knock in after some poor handling by the Wasps keeper.
As the game wore on EGTFC began to take more control with Karaolis leading by example as he began to dominate the midfield with a powerful performance and it was his through ball that found White on the edge of the box whose strike beat the Southwater keeper making it 2-2. As EGTFC pressed they were awarded a corner which broke to Karaolis on the edge of the 18 yard box who with two touches brought the ball under control on his chest and then volleyed the ball into the top corner to give EGTFC the lead.
The Wasps were now in the ascendance as they pressed forward and they were unfortunate not to add to their tally as Karaolis saw two efforts take the paint off the posts and then Callum Tocher had his shot saved by the Southwater keeper. However, a long ball forward saw the EGTFC defence unable to deal with the Southwater striker as he went past two defenders and scored to equalise at 3-3. EGTFC could have snatched a last minute winner as Fletcher broke free and saw his powerful goal bound shot brilliantly saved by the Southwater keeper. Excellent entertainment as the all the players received a deserved round of applause from both sets of spectators.

EGTFC put in a strong performance against Southwater in this Horsham and District division A league match however they had to come from behind yet again. Southwater took the game to EGTFC and deservedly went ahead with an accomplished finish. However, East Grinstead simply raised the tempo and began to dominate with a strong midfield performance from both Jamie Green and Rhys White. The Wasps began to pass the ball around with an increased confidence creating a number of opportunities and it was no surprise when Scott Fletcher finished with a trade mark goal. A missed penalty by Grinstead kept the score at 1-1 at half time.
EGTFC came out in the second half and continued to outplay Southwater for long periods. A much improved performance from a new defensive line up particularly from Nicholas Karaolis gave the midfield the platform to create a number of opportunities. A defence splitting though ball from Green to Fletcher saw a top draw finish as Fletcher rifled the ball into the top corner. Two more goals from the speedy Tocher saw EGTFC cruise into a 4-1 lead. However, Southwater battled all the way and scored from an unstoppable shot from 20 yards which flew into the back of the net. With five minutes to go Southwater were awarded a dubious penalty however they only managed to hit the post and EGTFC ran out worthy winners.

East Grinstead played their best football of the season in this Horsham Division A match as they had to come back from behind after conceding to Horsham early on in the first half. Goals from Scott Fletcher and then from Daniel Byrne after finishing a great run by rounding the keeper put the Wasps 2-1 up. A good move from Horsham was finished with a well taken goal. However a four goal blitz by East Grinstead with goals from Fletcher and Byrne and then from Rhys White and Callum Tocher just before half time put the Wasps in control and the game beyond Horsham.
A few changes at half time saw Horsham take the game to EGTFC putting the home team under pressure however it was EGTFC who scored with a neat goal from Tocher. To the credit of Horsham they never gave up and scored from two speculative goals however it was never going to be enough against a fast moving and fluent passing East Grinstead team.

East Grinstead Town got off to a slow start against a Brockham side that had previously beaten Ashurst Wood. Brockham went one goal up after the Wasps defence had seemingly cleared the ball only to present it back to Brockhams centre forward who dispatched his shot with aplomb. As EGTFC came more into the match chances fell their way however the linesman seemed determined to cancel out any East Grinstead attack and they were unfortunate to go in 1-0 down at half time.
Both sides played good passing football in the second half and strong performances from both goalkeepers were a highlight however, two more errors at the back put Brockham 3-0 up with only twenty minutes to go. Tommy Dixon kept the Brockham forwards at bay with two world class saves giving EGTFC the confidence to dictate the play and pressurise Brockham into mistakes resulting in more possession and eventually a well deserved goal from Rhys White. EGTFC now began to believe that they could get something out of the game as they forced a number of good saves from the Brockham keeper first from Jamie Green and then from Callum Tocher who's shot was tipped onto the crossbar. Chances came and went for EGTFC as unfortunately the linesman again made an impact allowing Brockham to hang onto their lead.

East Grinstead Town made it into the next round of the cup as they outplayed and out passed their opponents Albury Eagles. The midfield duo of Nicholas Karaolis and Rhys White began to take command, and it was Karaolis who spread the ball out wide to Daniel Byrne who put in an inch perfect cross to Scott Fletcher to head home. As EGTFC pressurised their opponents a second goal came from Rhys White and a third from Scott Fletcher. However, Albury began to hit back and Tommy Dixon produced a couple of good saves however he was unable to keep out a fierce shot to his left. East Grinstead quickly secured the game before half time with a finely taken goal from Rhys White to go in 4-1 at half time.
The second half saw EGTFC dominate for long periods and it was no surprise to see Karaolis put Byrne through on the right - his powerful shot from the edge of the box soared into the top left corner as EGTFC went 5-1 up. A consolation goal from Albury resulting from a penalty made the score 5-2 however time had run out for Albury as EGTFC secured their passage into the next round.

Newly promoted East Grinstead Town faced last year's Horsham & District Division A champions and EGTFC put in a fine display in a match that the Wasps dominated for long periods. EGTFC shocked their hosts in this local derby as they demonstrated their attacking capabilities by deservedly going one up after ten minutes with a fine strike by Scott Fletcher after some superb approach work.
East Grinstead allowed their hosts back into the game by conceding a couple of soft goals however, Fletcher epitomised the inner belief of EGTFC by firing in a second goal just before half time after rounding two defenders.
A poor start from the Wasps in the second half saw Ashurst Wood score three times in five minutes from goal mouth scrambles however EGTFC never gave up and as they turned up the heat they began to out battle Ashurst Wood in midfield with Daniel Byrne, Nicholas Karaolis and Jamie Green dictating the play. Ashurst Wood were now put under considerable pressure and they began to crack as a goal bound rocket from Fletcher was blatantly handled resulting in a penalty which Green coolly slotted home in the bottom right corner.
In a final effort EGTFC increased the tempo of the match with their passing game however time was against them, and a relieved Ashurst Wood were happy to hear the final whistle with the score 5-3 in their favour.

EGTFC put in a very lack lustre display in the first half as they failed to sparkle against an Ockley side that was now back to full strength after their defeat to Ashurstwood. Ockley took a deserved two goal lead into half time with two well taken strikes.
The second half saw the Wasps compete more for the ball and a well taken strike from Jamie Green put Town back into the match however two defensive lapses allowed Ockley to score twice to go 4-1 up. East Grinstead never gave up and despite creating a several opportunities throughout the match they were unable to hit the back of the net which would have seen them win comfortably. A disappointing result in game that was ultimately lost to poor finishing.

EGTFC applied more pressure as they turned up the heat with another goal from Rhys White and an own goal to go 5-0 up at half time.
The second half saw the Wasps out run Cranleigh as they competed for every ball and it was no surprise to see EGTFC add to their tally with goals form David Birch, Jamie Green and Scott Fletcher. A couple of good saves from the Cranleigh keeper and the woodwork kept the score down as the Wasps deservedly took their place at the top of the league.

The second half saw Wasps enjoy most of the possession coming close with an effort from Rhys White which hit the bar. However, it was Three Bridges who scored against the run of play as they took advantage of a defensive lapse. It was now that EGTFC showed what they are made of with a steely determination and a strong captains performance from Jamie Green the Wasps scored twice with goals from Callum Tocher and then from Scott Fletcher to go 3-2 up. However in the dying seconds of injury time Three Bridges snatched a fortunate equaliser from a corner as East Grinstead failed to clear their decks with the game finishing 3-3.
