:: Dorking Saints U12's 1, East Grinstead Town U12's 1 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
East Grinstead travelled to Dorking in sub zero temperatures to play reigning champions and high flyers The Saints and pulled off a creditable draw against a strong opposition.

East Grinstead started brightly and created a few openings early on with Fitzgerald and Tingley causing havoc in their back line. The best openings fell to Tingley but the shots were not strong enough to beat the keeper. Grinstead's back four of Davis, Howell, Hales and Benniman dealt with anything that the Saints could muster and the keeper Baston swept up anything that came over the top.

Grinstead carried on pushing but could not take advantage of the bracing winds at their backs and went in at half time at nil nil.

Early in the second half a misplaced shot from birthday boy Daunt found its way to Dan Witt who slotted home his first goal for the club. A Jakeman and Ridley bossed the midfield and substitute Dilek caused problems up front. Baston was solid with his kicking and cleared up any stray shots but had no chance with the equalizer when slight hesitation opened up a gap and the Saints' forward rifled the ball in to the top corner. Grinstead battled to the end and came away with a deserved point against a very strong team.

Grinstead: Baston, Davis, Howell, Hales, Benniman, Witt, Jakeman, Ridley, Daunt, Fitzgerald, Tingley, Dilek

:: Holmbury Wolves U12's 2, East Grinstead Town U12's 1 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
After making the long trek to Holmbury St Mary and using their best orienteering skills to find the pitch through what looked like Blair Witch woods, Grinstead started the game sharply playing some nice neat football on the wide but bobbly pitch.

After a couple of half chances went begging Holmbury had their first counter attack which needed a save with his legs from goalkeeper Aaron Baston to keep the score level.

Grinstead used the pace of Scott Devlin to good effect and he finally broke the deadlock half way through the first half. Grinstead continued to dominate without increasing their lead and right on half time Holmbury equalized when their striker lashed a shot against the inside of the post which shot out and hit Baston on the ankle and fired into the bottom corner for an unfortunate equalizer.

Tingly and A.Jakeman continued to work hard in midfield getting the ball out to Fitzgerald and Howell whilst the back four of Daunt, Benniman , Davies and Hales were put under constant pressure by the very fast Holmbury forwards.

Ridley and Meek came on in the second half for Creek and Davies and not long after coming on Ridley gave a free kick away on the edge of the penalty area. Grinstead defended this well but still could not find a breakthrough and inevitably Holmbury played their long ball over the top and this time the striker slotted it home.

Grinstead kept pressing without looking like scoring and it was Holmbury who had the best effort to increase the scoring , a good cross was met on the half volley at pace which was rocketing to the top corner when Baston made the save of the season so far by diving and pushing the ball over the bar to safety both efforts enjoying a well earned round of applause. This was the last noticeable action of the game and Grinstead made the long journey home pointless.

Man of the match was Aaron Baston who has settled in to the goalkeeping roll well since taking over after the second game of the season.

Team: Baston , Hales , Benniman, Davies , Daunt , Fitzgerald , Tingly , A.Jakeman , Devlin ,Creek , Howell subs Meek , Ridley.

:: East Grinstead Town U12's 2, East Grinstead Meads U12's 1 :: back to top Go to the top of the page
Town have made a slow start this season with new players taking time to gel but looked like everything had clicked together on Saturday with the scoreline flattering the opponents.

Straight from the kick off Town attacked up the hill and created a flurry of chances with some better finishing should have been two or three nil up. Goal keeper Aaron Baston was a virtual spectator for all of the half apart from one half chance created on the break. Town finally broke the deadlock with new signing Scott Devlin scoring his first goal for the club and shortly after Harry Tingly made it two nil.

Good work down the left from Sam Jakeman and Tom Daunt caused the visiting team lots of problems and the power and pace of Alex Jakeman in center midfield was too much for the opponents to handle. Good work up front from Zak Howell and Luke Fitzgerald created plenty of chances but Town could not find the net again. Defenders Jack Benniman, Ben Davies and Brook Hales had little to do and started to push on too much and were caught out by a long ball over the top that resulted in a goal for the Meads.

All three subs Matty Meek , Oliver Thompson and Robert Creek got on in the second half and gave good accounts of themselves.

Manager Yaki Jones was pleased with the performance after a turbulent week which saw the captain leave the club but was slightly disappointed with the lack of goals scored after plenty of chances had been created.

Next week the team travels to local rivals Three Bridges.
