A disappointing result for the high flying Reserves as they were held by a niggly Sidley team. Town started the game at a high tempo pace and Sidley were struggling to cope with the pace of the game. Town deservedly took the lead when good play from Lynn, Garret and Upton created a goal scoring opportunity for Ben Alexander. Whilst his first shot was blocked, Alexander reacted quickly to dive and head the rebound past the keeper.
It was a surprise when the visitors drew level from what ended up being their only chance of the game. Town responded with good play as they started to stretch the Sidley defence but chances were squandered.
The second half saw Town dominate both territory and possesion but were unable to produce that all important goal. Matt Garrett and Brian Tilley went close but the visitors hung on for a point.
Team : Whibley, Tilley, Lancashire, Brockbank, Alexander, Horner, Goodwin, Lynn, Thorpe, Upton and Garrett. Subs Used : Johnston and Pelling

GOOD LEAGUE FORM CONTINUES FOR RESERVES
East Grinstead Town Reserves maintained their 100% home league form against Lancing on Saturday. However, this will most probably go down as one of their least effective performances of the season. In the first half Town dominated for long spells but their only reward was a neatly taken goal by Adrian Bell. Town went close in the first half through Matt Garrett, James Upton and Andy Goodwin but they could not translate possession and chances into goals. Once again the tackling and workrate of skipper Richard Foyle was impressive for Town.
Lancing did look lively on the counter-attack but they were well looked after by Ben Brockbank and Michael Turville. Youngsters, Bobby Buckingham and Craig Lancashire, pushed forwards from full back to cause more problems for Lancing down the flanks but the score remained at 1-0 at half time.
Town Keeper, Lee Whibley, although not busy dealt with all attacks with an assured manner.
The second half saw Town once again dominate for long periods and although Ben Alexander looked lively out wide the second goal did not arrive. Town were able to introduce twotion Tow experioenced players after an hour, John Richardson and James Horner, to try and lift the team. However the performance never really matched the domination Town had on the game.
Bobby Buckingham had to leave the field seven minutes from time with a badly studded injury, which enabled Town's final substitute, Phil Major, to make an appearance. A good run and shot from Upton was parried by the Lancing keeper and Major was on hand to stab the loose ball home from 15 yards.
The Reserves will need to improve this Saturday when they are at home to Whitehawk if they are going to continue this winning run.
Team : Whibley, Buckingham, Lancashire, Foyle, Turville, Brockbank, Alexander, Goodwin, Bell, Garrett and Upton Subs Used : Horner, Richardson and Major (P)

An excellent away win by Town Reserves which lifted them to third place in the County Reserve Premier League. Wasps gave a debut to new siogning James Hadfield and after a good start had to leave the field after 20 minutes through injury.
After a frantic start Grinstead deservedly took the lead through Jez Tobin who scored with a low drive from 20 yards.
Unfortunately the home side were level within 5 minutes after a lapse of concentration in the Wasps defence. Just before half time Wasps regained the lead when a 35 yard speculative effort from Scott Harrison found the top right hand corner of the net.
The back four of Buckingham, Green, Day and Harrison had to defend well in the first 10 minutes of the second half as Hassocks pushed for the equaliser. The middle 20 minutes of the second half saw Wasps play their best football. Both Matt Garrett and Jez Tobin went close before Adrian Bell stepped off the bench to score after good work from Tobin. Bell then repaid Tobin with good work which enabled Tobin to score his second and Wasps fourth.
Town competed throughout the game with Alexander, Upton and Goodwin working very hard for Town. Hassocks did get a consolation goal past the impressive Lee Whibley but Town held on to secure all three points.
Team : Whibley, Buckingham, Harrison, Foyle, Green, Day, Alexander, Goodwin, Tobin, Garrett, Hadfield Subs Used : Upton and Bell.

Town Reserves faced a Peacehaven first team riding high in the County Third Division in the Sussex Intermediate Cup and with only eleven players it was going to be a difficult afternoon. The task was made even harder when Town conceded after only five minutes. After this early setback the team started to compose themselves and they started to knock the ball around from midfield pairing Andy Smith and Craig Lancashire. Town were rewarded with an equaliser after 25 minutes when a free kick was not collected by the home keeper and Steve Major stabbed the ball home from the far post.
Town started to control the game and were looking comfortable at the back with Kevin Wright organising proceedings. It was therefore disappointing that Peacehaven regained the lead just before half time.
The second half saw Town continue to work hard although they had no replacements to bring on. Peacehaven extended their lead after 60 minutes but then the real character of the Town side really came out. Rather than let their heads drop they attacked Peacehaven and put them on the back foot. It was 3-2 after 70 minutes when a long range effort from Major found the top left hand corner of the net. There was real panic in the home side as Town pressed for the equaliser. A shot from Smith hit the bar and a Major free-kick hit the side netting.
Against the run of play Peacehaven broke in the last couple of minutes to score and secure victory. A very good effort by the Reserves, as they now get back to league action this Saturday with a very important home game against Arundel.
Team : Whibley, Buckingham, Harrison, Smith, Green, Wright, Horner, Lancashire, Richardson, Garrett and Major.

Winning League Run Continues
The Reserves have now gone four games unbeaten in the Reserve Premier League and have now only lost once in their last nine league games. The
three points on Saturday has lifted them to third in the table and whilst the scoreline looks tight this was a game Grinstead were always in control.
They took the lead midway through the first half when Jez Tobin pounced onto a loose ball to score from 10 yards. Town could and should have extended their lead before the break but went in at half time just a goal up. Town got the all important goal on the hour when Ben Burns was brought down in the box. Andy Smith made no mistake from the spot.
East Grinstead looked very comfortable with James Ricketts and Michael Turville very assured in the centre of defence. As the game went into the final qquarter Town understandbly tired as they had a number of players coming back from injury who were not fully match fit. The home side did score a very late goal but it did not stop the Wasps running out worthy winners.
Team : Whibley, Buckingham, Neville, Smith, Ricketts, Turville, Johnston, Lynn, Burns, Tobin and Coomber.

Town Reserves put in a workmanlike performance to take all three points in this County Reserve Premier league game. The Wasps got off to the best possible start when Adrian Bell put Town in the lead in the 5th minute.
Unfortunately Town could not capitalise on this good start and let the home side take the iniative for the next 25 minutes. Town, however, extended their lead after 35 minutes against the run of play when Ben Alexander glided past a defender before curling a shot into the top right hand corner.
Town gave the home side a boost after 40 minutes when some sloppy defensive play allowed Lancing to score and it stayed at 2-1 at half time. It was that man Bell once again who started ringing alarm bells in the Lancing defence and he scored after 55 minutes to make the score 3-1. Town then proceeded to miss chances to put the game out of the reach of Lancing. In the 80th minute Lancing scored to set up an interesting last 10 minutes but Town raised their game and after a good flowing move, Andy Smith scored to establish a 2 goal cushion for Town.
There was excellent debuts for a couple of East Grinstead youngsters on Saturday. Marc Pelling had an excellent game in the centre of midfield and Miles Neville was very assured at left back. It was also good to see Michael Turville make a return to the side after a number of weeks away from football and a final mention to skipper Richard Foyle who had an excellent game in the heart of the defence.
Team : Whibley, Foyle, Neville, Pelling, Turville, Brockbank, Johnston, Upton, Bell, Haylor and Alexander.
Sub Used : Smith A.

East Grinstead Town Reserves celebrated wearing their new kit sponsored by Double Decks in real style with a thumping nine nil victory in the Sussex Intermediate Cup. Wasps were quite clearly a cut above the visitors and took the lead after five minutes through Adrian Bell. The second goal after 15 minutes was scored by Craig Lancashire and then a superb header from a corner from Drew Cooney gave Town a three goal lead at half time.
The second half saw Adrian Bell complete his hatrick with two excellent goals and there was also goals for skipper Richard Foyle, Ben Alexander, Dan Taylor and Andy Goodwin.

After putting in some excellent performances in recent weeks, the Reserves put in a lacklustre display and came away with all three points on Saturday. The squad have set themselves high standards and their performance at Eastbourne was nothing more than ordinary. The home side should have taken the lead after 10 minutes but their goal bound shot was superbly blocked on the line by Ben Brockbank. The Wasps had a couple of long range shots and one acute shot from Adrian "Jingles" Bell made the keeper work.
With the game goaless at half time, Grinstead were confident that if they increased the work rate and improved the passing then they could win the game. Unfortunately it was the home side that took the initiative and pinned Grinstead back on the defensive for most opf the second half.
Although Grinstead conceded both possesion and territory, the home side were unable to create any goal scoring opportunities.
The game turned on the 70th minute when some good play from Bell and Richard Foyle enabled Ben Alexander to get into a dangerous position.
Alexander's whipped in cross shot gave the home keeper no chance as it sailed into the top left hand corner of the net.
The Grinstead defence stayed firm with Chris Day in very good form and the three points took Grinstead up to fourth place in the Reserve Premier Division.

The reserves can be proud of their performance at East Brighton Park tonight where they picked up a good point in a well-contested Premier Division tussle.
With Richard Foyle stuck in London and our two subs dropping out at the very last minute, Grinstead had to play the entire game with ten men and things looked bleak when a foul by James Upton led to an early Whitehawk goal from the penalty spot.
But Adrian Bell raced clear to lob the equaliser and then goalkeeper James Butcher made some fine saves to keep it at 1-1 at the interval.
Even though they were playing down the slope Whitehawk were less of a threat in the second half and when Bell burrowed his way to the by-line and pulled the ball back Upton had a tap in to make it 2-1 to Grinstead in the 66th minute.
Unfortunately, Butcher spoiled his night by completely missing a routine clearance on the edge of his box with 12 minutes to go and the home side were gifted an equaliser.
But the ten men dug in and nearly snatched all three points when Upton struck the base of the post in injury time.
Considering the circumstances this was a performance the squad and coach Mick Buckingham, who was looking after the side in Phil Major's absence, can be proud.
The only minus points were bookings for Smith and Bell.
Team: Butcher; Buckingham, Coomber, Lancashire, Brockbank; Alexander, Upton, Smith, Major' Bell.

It was agony for the Reserves as they worked so hard to get something from this match. Things started very bad as Arundel took the lead after 6 minutes and really dominated the game. A tackle by Andy Goodwin, when he got the ball first, saw him sent off after 25 minutes and Town were now really under pressure. They weathered the onslaight and got to half-time still trailing 1-0.
The second half saw a rreally posive attitude from the team and they took the game to Arundel and richly desreved the equaliser after 75 minutes.
Andy Smith caused confusion in the box and he was on hand to stab the ball home. The lead was short lived and Arundel regained the lead on 80 minutes.
The 10 men Town heroes would not accept defeat and with only 4 minutes remaining they equalised again. A loose ball was collected on the edge of the box by Craig Lancashire and he superbly curled the ball into the top right hand corner.
Their was a horrible final twist for Town when a long throw by Arundel was not cleared and they scored with the last kick of the match.
Team : Whibley, Buckingham, Coomber, Smith, Johnston, Brockbank, Alexander, Goodwin, Haylor, Major and Sarling Sub Used : Lancashire

| :: East Grinstead Town 3, Oakwood 1 :: |

The Reserves maintained their 100% home record with a good win against a battling Oakwood team. The first half saw few chances with Grinstead having the greater possession but not being able to breakdown a stubborn Oakwood defence. As the first half drifted on, Town lost their way and started to make some mistakes but just before half time James Upton popped up to score the opening goal.
After a strong talking to at half time, Grinstead started the second half much brighter and created a couple of chances in the first ten minutes.
After 55 minutes, and totally against the run of play, Oakwood scored an equaliser. This seemed to ignite Town as they totally dominated the game.
The second goal came following a long ball from Andy Smith, the pass was picked up by Adam Dart who crossed for Upton to score from close range.
Town continued to drive forward and were rewarded with a third goal after
88 minutes when Elvis Lynn squared the ball for Adrian "Jingles" Bell to tap the ball home for his first senior goal.
The game saw Chris Day make an excellent debut in the heart of the defence and along with Ben Brockbank they gave an assured performance at the back.
A good win for the reserves which consolidates them in third place in the Reserve Section Premier League.
Team : Whibley, Foyle, Dart, Smith, Day, Brockbank, Sarling, Upton, Haylor, Alexander and Major Subs Used : Coomber, Lynn and Bell

The Reserves put in a tremendous display to gain a well deserved point and lift themselves to third place in the County Reserve Premier Division.
Last minute changes and unavailabilities left Town with only 12 players to travel to Chichester.
As expected Chichester started the game at a high tempo with a big team playing physical football. Town weathered the storm and the experience of Kevin Wright and Ben Brockbank was very important in the early stages.
Town suffered a big blow when Craig Lancashire had to leave the field injured after 30 minutes and was replaced by Zac Curtis.
Town re-organised their team and had the better of the exchanges in the last 10 minutes with James Upton going close following a Dave Sarling corner.
The second half saw Town take the game to Chichester but on 55 minutes Town were caught on the break and Chichester clinically made three very quick passes before a 25 yard shot found the Grinstead net. Town then showed their true spirit as they raised the tempo and looked for the equaliser and it came after 70 minutes. Chichester gave away a free kick on the right edge of their penalty box and Steve Major curled it left footed into the top right hand corner.
Town now were looking for all three points and with Drew cooney making a welcome return in the midfield Town started to drive forwards with real purpose. The best chance that Town had for victory came with five minutes remaining; a Town free kick was cleverly worked to Kevin Wright who made a late run and was blatently taken out inside the box. The referee waved play on and Town's chances of all three points vanished.
The Reserve Team Management of Phil Major and Paul Wadham could not praise the efforts of the 12 players enough; it was an excellent performance and showed great character and spirit.
Team : Whibley, Buckingham, Brockbank, Wright, Lancashire, Sarling, Smith, Cooney, Major, Upton and Haylor.

The Reserves put in an excellent performance to secure all three points in
this County Reserve Premiership Match. Town were quickly in the lead after
a couple of minutes when a diagonal pass from James Upton found Steven
Major who prodded it past the advancing keeper. The lead was doubled on 10
minutes when Upton wrong footed the defender before giving the keeper no
chance. It was 3-0 after 35 minutes when following a good move Upton
crossed the ball for Major to volley the ball in from 20 yards for his
second of the game. Whilst the scoreline remained at 3-0 until half-time,
East Preston did infact create and miss three good chances themselves.
The second half was only 5 minutes old when the lead went to 4-0; the
visiting keeper could only parry a shot and John Richardson was on hand to
finish from close range. Upton scored his second when he finished
clinically following an excellent ball from Kevin Wright. East Preston hit
back with a stunning strike from 30 yards but their joy was shortlived.
Richardson was once again on hand from close range to score his second to
make it 6-1. The final goal was scored by youngster Craig Haylor who
finished well after a powerful run.
A great team performance which saw good games from both full backs, Craig
Lancashire and Paul McKenzie, and strong midfield performances from Elvis
Lynn and Andy Smith.
Team : Whibley, McKenzie, Lancashire, Foyle, Wright, Alexander, Smith,
Lynn, Major, Upton and Richardson. Subs Used : Haylor and Curtis
