EAST Grinstead Town boss Bob Smith has vowed that his side will make it third time lucky and claim their place in the County League first division.
For the second season running Wasps just missed out on a return to top flight. Last year they were denied by Hailsham and on Saturday they suffered their first league defeat since December 15 and were pipped to third place by East Preston.
Sean Duffy's second half goal meant it was the East Preston players who cavorted on the pitch in celebration after their 1-0 win clinched their immediate return back to Division One.
The consolation for Grinstead came from the revenue generated by a crowd of 469, the highest for a league game at East Court since the ground opened in 1967.
Smith said: "It's hard at the moment to think of much else except the dissapointment we all feel about coming up just short once again.
"But the players will lift themselves and so will I and I think we will be even stronger next season. I really thought this was our year, but you have to give credit to East Preston. They played well on Saturday and, over the season, the league table doesn't lie.
"We have a good, young, local squad here and hopefully they will all stay to have another crack at it next season. They have been a credit to the club for what they have achieved and they should all be proud of themselves."

Youth football...
EAST Grinstead will be hosting Footie Fun 2002 for the third year running on Sunday, May 19.
Footie Fun is a non-profit making mini-football competition for boys and girls aged from under 7 to under-12 years of age with the accent firmly on fun and community.
Entries are now being accepted from local schools, football teams and children organisation and the action starts at 10.30am at East Court.

THE battle for the third and final promotion spot from County League Division Two will go to the last game when Grinstead take on East Preston at East Court on Saturday (ko 3.00pm).
A win for Wasps would see them back in the first division after a seven year absence while the visitors only need to draw to claim their place back in the top flight a season after relegation.
Both teams won on Tuesday to set up the promotion decider. While EP were enjoying a routine 3-0 home win over lowly Oving, Grinstead produced a stirring second half performance to get the better of Lancing.
Manager Bob Smith said: "To take it down to the last game is a great achievement by the players, but they don't want to stop now - they want to win promotion.
"We were a bit tense last night, but once we had scored I thought we played some good football.
"All I hope on Saturday is that we do ourselves justice and that we have a really big crowd down to support us, that could make a big difference."
Smith will have a full-strength squad at his disposal now that midfielders Matt Thorpe and Steve Greig, who were both on the bench last night, have returned.
He added: "Having everyone available is a bonus for what is the biggest game this club have had since we last got promoted nine years ago."

BOSS Bob Smith has appealed to people in East Grinstead to come and support his side in a potential promotion decider on Saturday.
Wasps will take on East Preston (ko 3.00pm) knowing that victory will put them back in division one of the County League after a seven year absence, providing they also beat Lancing at East Court on Tuesday night.
Only victory would suffice as any other result would mean only East Preston could overtake Eastbourne Town in one of the closest promotion races for years.
Grinstead came from a goal down to beat Broadbridge Heath 4-1 on Saturday in their final away game. It meant Wasps finished the season with just two league defeats on the road.

Now Smith's men must get their home form right if they are to bring some long-awaited success to East Court - and that's where a big crowd can make the difference.
Smith said: "Saturday is certainly going to be a big occasion for one of the two teams and it would be fantastic if we were involved and had a big crowd to cheer us on.
"Our supporters haven't had much to celebrate over the years, but they have stuck by us and I would love to go up as much for them as the players and the people behind the scenes at the club who have done so much hard work to turn the club's fortunes around."
Smith could have a full strength squad available for the East Preston game.
Midfielder Steve Greig, who has missed the last four matches, returns from holiday in America on Friday and could figurewhile Matt Thorpe, who was away on Saturday, was due to return for the visit of Lancing.
Smith added: "The boys are really flying at the moment, but we are under no illusions that we face two very difficult games. But defensively we have looked very solid recently and on Saturday we could have scored seven or eight goals, although at half-time I would have settled for a 2-1 win."

GRINSTEAD Reserves are ending the season on a disappointing note. They lost 1-0 at Seaford on Saturday in a match of few chances but last Wednesday they held promoted Lewes to a goalless draw at East Court.

In their last home match of the season Wasps found Lewes fielding a very different team to the one we played against a couple of weeks ago, and will be a bit disappointed not to have squeezed a win. As against Crawley Down last Saturday we didn't carry a great threat in the opposition penalty area. The bone hard pitch was again the greatest influence on the game. Although both teams tried to play football it was inevitable that the ball spent a lot of time trying to leave the earth's atmosphere.

FORMER Republic of Ireland international Paul McGhee is giving an unexpected boost to East Grinstead Town's promotion bid.
McGhee, landlord of the Dorset Arms in the High Street, showed, even at 42, that he could still offer plenty at Sussex County League level when he came on for the last 20 minutes during Saturday's 2-0 win over Shinewater which kept Wasps in the hunt for a first division place.

McGhee, who played 15 times for Eire during a league career at QPR and Preston, set up the second of two goals for Kris Trevor to seal a win which leaves Wasps needing to win their last three games to guarantee the third promotion spot in Division Two.
Manager Bob Smith said: "I went to see Paul and he was very interested in helping out. With Dave Gellatly and Steve Greig out we are short in midfield.
"Obviously Paul is not as quick as he was when he was a professional, but his touch and awareness was excellent. I think our boys benefitted from his presence on Saturday."
Gellatly could return for Saturday's trip to Broadbridge Heath (3pm), but McGhee is expected to be involved again and Smith hopes to persuade him to undertake a coaching role at East Court next season.
For now Smith's priority is guiding Grinstead to the three victories which will see them overtake Eastbourne Town and enable them to join Shoreham and Rye & Iden United in the top flight.
Last Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Oakwood, when Andy Rabbetts rescued a point with an injury time equaliser, at least left Wasps knowing exactly what they had to do to go up.
Three wins from the game at Heath and home fixtures against Lancing Tuesday week (7.30pm ko) and the other promotion contenders East Preston, on Saturday week, are still a tall order, but Wasps produced a good performance against an improving Shinewater side who can count Shoreham and Eastbourne Town among their recent scalps.
Smith said: "I thought we played really well, there was a good tempo to our play although we couldn't really relax until we had scored our second goal.
"The boys know exactly what it will take to get promoted now. The three games we have left are all going to be tough, it might all come down to what happens in the final game against East Preston."

WASPS' promotion hopes are hanging by the slenderest of threads after they were held to a draw by gutsy Oakwood at East Court on Tuesday.

An 89th minute goal from Andy Rabbetts at least saved Grinstead from a disastrous defeat and the point cuts the deficit behind third-placed Eastbourne Town down to ten.
But Grinstead now have to win their last four fixtures to overtake Town - and they must also hope that East Preston, who have six matches left, slip-up as well.

EAST Grinstead Town maintained their promotion push with a hard-fought 3-2 win at Mile Oak on Saturday.
There was an element of fortune about Wasps' 76th minute winner, which went in off Oak midfielder Wayne Whitington, but there was no doubt that the visitors deserved their eighth away win of the campaign in County League Division Two.

Both their rivals for the third promotion place, Eastbourne Town and East Preston, also won, but Eastbourne have now completed their fixtures with 65 points. Wasps have five games left and can total 69 while East Preston, with six matches to go, can get a maximum of 71.
It might all come down to the last game of the season on April 27 at East Court when Grinstead take on... East Preston.
Manager Bob Smith said: "We are not looking any further forward than Tuesday's match with Oakwood and then the game on Saturday against Shinewater.
"All we know is that if we win our last five matches then we will go up, but there could be a lot of twists and turns in the next three weeks."
At this stage of the season results are more important than performances, a point Smith was happy to acknowledge after his side had to come from 2-1 down to win in awful conditions.
"We played well for the first half hour and if we'd taken one of the really good chances we had to make it 2-0 then it was game over.
"Mile Oak came back into it, but we showed determination to pull it back and I thought that overall we deserved to win."
Oakwood visit East Court on Tuesday night (kick off 7.30pm) while on Saturday Shinewater, the side who shocked Eastbourne Town on Easter Monday, are the visitors, kick off 3.00pm.
Grinstead then face Broadbridge Heath away before successive home matches against Lancing and East Preston to complete their programme. East Preston's run in includes home games against Broadbridge Heath, Lancing, Crawley Down and Oving as well as a trip to Lancing.
Smith has Kevin Wright available after suspension on Tuesday night and is also hoping to have skipper Dave Gellatly fit after he missed the last two games with a swollen ankle. But fellow midfielder Steve Greig has gone travelling to America and will miss the run-in.

Any remaining chances of the reserves gaining promotion probably disappeared in this defeat to the team that will probably win the league. The game came only three days after a hard game at Lewes (who will probably win the other promotion place).

CONGRATULATIONS to Bob Smith and the players after Grinstead were named Division Two team of the month for March.
Wasps will be looking to maintain their pursuit of a promotion place at Mile Oak tomorrow (3pm) but they will be without Kevin Wright who completes a suspension.
Eastbourne Town complete their fixtures with a trip to Oving. Eastbourne are currently 11 points ahead of Wasps in the third promotion place, but we have five games in hand.
Rye will join Shoreham in gaining promotion if they take a point from the home game against Seaford.
Don't forget that the first team are back in action again next Tuesday at home to Oakwood, kick off 7.30pm.

THE reserves suffered a setback in their promotion bid from Reserve Section East on Wednesday night when they suffered a 4-0 defeat at Lewes.
To make matters worse, Ben Alexander broke his leg after a heavy challenge. Ben is in the Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and is due to have an operation on Friday. Everyone at the club naturally wishes him a speedy recovery.
Grinstead stay in third place, eight points behind Lewes but with three games in hand. The sides meet again at East Court on April 17.
Before then Ian Lindsey takes the side to Eastbourne Town this Saturday. Town are the league leaders and a good result at the Saffrons would still enable us to overtake them if we won four of the five games in hand we have on them.

Two controversial penalties in the last ten minutes in an otherwise drab local derby ensured a point apiece in this Bank Holiday fixture.
The win was more important to Grinstead as they still harbour hopes of promotion but with Eastbourne Town losing their second successive match and East Preston only managing two successive draws over the Bank Holiday Weekend with six games remaining Grinstead could still claim that third promotion spot.
However if they play like they did against Crawley Down their chances are still very remote. They never got going against their resolute neighbours and were lacking in any ideas going forward as the hard bobbly pitch suited Down's more aggressive and direct game. In fact neither keeper was seriously tested in the whole game until the late penalty drama.

A four goal haul from captain Dave Gellatly ensured Grinstead did not suffer any surprise result against relegation haunted Bosham at East Court on Saturday.

With Eastbourne Town suffering a shock defeat against Wealden in the week the race for the third promotion space has now been left slightly ajar and it was vital that Grinstead, who probably need to win all 9 games remaining to have a realistic chance of promotion, saw off bottom club Bosham.
East Grinstead entertain Wealden on Tuesday night (26th) before entertaining Crawley Down on Bank Holiday Monday, 11.00 am kick off. There is no match at East Court on Saturday 30th March.

East Grinstead reserve team suffered a major set back in their promotion battle when they were comfortably beaten 4-1 away at 5th placed Ringmer.

Wasps' trip to Ringmer was always going to be a difficult game, and that is precisely how it turned out. We were only in the game for the first 20 minutes, and can have no complaints about the final score-line.

The third team enjoyed a 2-0 success over bottom of the table East Grinstead Mariners to maintain their comfortable mid-table position.

AN unexpected defeat for Eastbourne Town last night has given Wasps a glimmer of hope in the second division promotion race. Town lost 4-3 at home to Wealden which means Grinstead will overtate Town by three points if they win their seven games in hand. Eastbourne have just two games left. East Preston, the other side still in the hunt for the third promotion place, have a tough game at Rye on Saturday and, of course, they visit East Court on April 27 for the last match of the season which could still be a potential promotion decider.

Meanwhile, tonight's reserve team league game against Lewes at East Court has been postponed because of a waterlogged pitch. The hope now is that drier weather forecast for the end of the week will enable Saturday's first team game at home to Bosham to go ahead. Remember that Wealden are the visitors to East Court next Tuesday, kick off 7.30pm.

THE reserves are due to host Lewes tomorrow night (Wednesday), but the game is already in doubt after heavy rain on Sunday night and Monday.
Groundsmen Peter Cadman and John Fisher were unable to do any repair work on the pitch on Monday and an inspection is planned for Wednesday lunchtime. Look out for a posting on the website on Wednesday afternoon for the result of that inspection.
Meanwhile, Kevin Wright will miss two games at the beginning of April as a result of his sending off in the reserves' Intermediate Cup defeat at Midhurst on March 4 for deliberate handball.
He misses the Easter Monday match at home to Crawley Down and the visit to Mile Oak on April 6.
One of our promotion rivals, Eastbourne Town, are in action tonight against Wealden at the Saffrons. Let's hope for an away win, but don't hold your breath!

BOB Smith was delighted with the character shown by his East Grinstead Town side as they bounced back from the dissapointment of the Division Two Cup semi-final defeat to record a convincing 3-0 win over Oving at East Court on Saturday.

Eastbourne Town, who knocked Wasps out of the cup with a 3-1 at Burgess Hill last Wednesday, still look favourites to deny them the third promotion spot from Division Two as well.
Eastbourne beat Bosham - this Saturday's visitors to East Court - 8-1 and remain 18 points clear of Grinstead who do have six games in hand. Eastbourne also have a much superior goal difference and three matches left, all against struggling teams.
But it appears Grinstead are not about to throw in the towel just yet, and only poor finishing and the woodwork saved Oving from an even heavier beating on Saturday.
Smith said: "Full credit to the players. I wanted a response from them after Wednesday and that's what they gave me, it was a really good performance.
"The only disappointing thing is that we could have scored a lot more goals, but you can't complain too much because once again we created a lot of chances."
Smith had to make changes to his midfield. Steve Greig (groin) missed his second game in a row, although he is hoping to recover in time for Bosham's visit this Saturday (ko 3.00pm).
Matt Thorpe, who took a heavy knock on the calf in the semi-final, started on the bench while work committments ruled out Peter Benton and Scott Woolley.

WASPS have another home game next Tuesday (March 26) when Wealden are the visitors to East Court in the league, kick off 7.30pm.

After the disappointment of last week's soft defeat against Oakwood, and then the Cup defeat against Midhurst in mid-week, Wasps showed great spirit and character to defeat one of the main rivals for the Reserve section title. Ringmer showed a lot of skill, and will continue to be at near the top of the table, but today it was Wasps who took the points.

EAST Grinstead Town manager Bob Smith should have top scorer Ben Burns back in his squad for Saturday's local derby against Crawley Down.
Wasps have made a seven-days approach to Redhill to bring Burns back to East Court four months after he left to join the first division outfit.
Burns scored 11 goals in 18 appearances before his move to Kiln Brow, but the 19-year-old looks like returning to give Grinstead's faltering promotion push a boost.
Smith said: "We were disappointed to lose Ben in the first place so to have him back for such a crucial phase of the season is good news for us."
Burns is likely to go straight back into the starting line-up as Kris Trevor is unavailable for the trip to the Haven (ko 1.30pm).
Smith will have to make at least one other change because skipper Dave Gellatly is suspended although he will return for next Wednesday's Division Two Cup semi-final against Eastbourne Town at Burgess Hill FC, ko 7.15pm.
Defender Andy Rabbetts returns this week after missing Saturday's 1-1 draw against second division Shoreham.

In normal circumstances a point against the leaders would be considered a good result, especially as Grinstead didn't equalise until the 88th minute when midfielder Matt Thorpe scored his ninth of the campaign with a 30 yard shot which flew into the top corner.
But wins for Eastbourne Town and East Preston meant Wasps lost ground in the race for the third promotion spot.
Although Grinstead have seven games in hand on Eastbourne Town, they are a massive 19 points behind them. Eastbourne have just four matches left and all of them are against sides in the bottom five.
Smith said: "We really can't afford to lose another game because I can't see Eastbourne slipping up in their last four matches.
"It means we have to go out in every game with a positive attitude. Of our 11 games left eight are at home so we still have a chance. We're not giving up although we know that Saturday's local derby will be extremely tough.
"Crawley Down beat us last season and that cost us in the promotion race. They are a hardworking side who are difficult to beat, but we won't need any motivation."
Grinstead have beaten Eastbourne twice in the league and Smith would dearly love to complete a hat-trick in the cup tie and lead Wasps to their first major final since 1975.
Steve Moore will be missing though because he is cup-tied.
Smith felt the 1-1 draw against Shoreham on Saturday was a fair result.
"They caused us problems, which you would have expected, but I thought we created more chances and we could easily have ended up winning the game.
"Steve Moore was outstanding at the back and when Mark Whale and George Parsons came off the bench they gave us some impetus as well.
"Only playing three games in seven weeks hasn't helped us, hopefully the bad weather is behind us now and we can get on a bit of a roll."

GRINSTEAD Reserves suffered their first home league defeat of the season on Saturday when they went down 3-1 to Oakwood. They have a must-win home match against fellow promotion hopefuls Ringmer on Saturday (3pm) before travelling to Crowborough next Tuesday (ko 7.45pm).

EAST Grinstead Town face one of their sternest County League tests of the season on Saturday in confident mood, according to boss Bob Smith. Wasps head to second division leaders Shoreham (3pm) looking for a victory which would re-ignite their promotion campaign.
Smith's men were frustrated by the weather again on Saturday when the home match with Wealden was called off because of a waterlogged pitch. Other results means they have dropped down to sixth place, 17 points behind Eastbourne Town who currently fill the third promotion position. Grinstead do have seven games in hand and Eastbourne's 3-3 draw at fifth-placed East Preston - the other realistic contenders for third place - was a welcome result for Smith.
After Shoreham they visit the Haven for the local derby with Crawley Down the following Saturday, but then eight of their remaining nine league fixtures will be at East Court.
Smith was boosted by his side's determined display in the 1-0 defeat by Ryman League high-fliers Horsham in the quarter-final of the Floodlight Cup last Tuesday.
He said: "If we can maintain that level of performance in our remaining games we will give ourselves a chance.
"After a poor showing at Oving the boys bounced back well. We have only played twice in the last six weeks and that has hurt our chances because Eastbourne have now got points in the bag.
"But we got on a roll at the end of last season and only just missed out. There's no reason why we can't do the same again."
"Shoreham will be tough, but we have already beaten them once and we always seem to raise our game against better teams and we will need to do that again."
James Horner, cup-tied against Horsham, returns for the Middle Road clash but Dave Garrett is still ruled out with a broken wrist. Peter Benton seems likely to keep his place in midfield. Meanwhile Grinstead will face Eastbourne Town in the semi-final of the Division Two Cup at Burgess Hill FC on Wednesday, March 13 - kick off 7.15pm.

Grinstead's Reserves are also hoping to make their games in hand count as they mount a challenge for promotion from the East Division, but they will have been disappointed with Saturday's 1-1 draw at Newhaven against a home side strengthened after their first team game was called off. George Parsons' pass allowed Damian Cherry to put Grinstead ahead after ten minutes, but Newhaven pounced on hesistant defending by Simon Larking to equalise shortly afterwards. Cherry had a goal disallowed in the second half, but Wasps struggled to make the strong wind work for them and goalkeeper Kelly Jones preserved a point with a save two minutes from time.
This Saturday the reserves entertain Oakwood (ko 3.00pm), but they are already preparing for next Monday's Sussex Intermediate Cup semi-final against Midhurst at Wick FC, kick off 7.45pm.
All three Grinstead teams have reached a semi-final this season and hopefully the third team's success at the weekend can inspire the two senior sides.

Town were at full strength for the fixture and were expecting a difficult game against TD Sports Reserves, who play in Division 2 of the Crawley League.

EAST Grinstead Town boss Bob Smith will be casting anxious glances towards the skies this week as he prays for a break in the weather.
Wasps' enforced winter break stretched into a fifth week on Saturday when the County League game against Oakwood at East Court was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
But with more settled conditions forecast, Smith is hopeful his side can resume their Division Two promotion challenge at lowly Oving on Saturday (ko 2.45pm).
Despite not playing since January 12, Grinstead remain in fourth place and once again some of their rivals for promotion faltered on Saturday. Shoreham are still on top, but they have picked up just one point from their last three games following a 4-2 defeat at Eastbourne Town.
East Preston and Lancing, the two teams below Wasps, were both held to draws by teams in the bottom five. Grinstead trail Eastbourne Town by a hefty 14 points, but they do have six games in hand and eight of their remaining 13 games will be at East Court.
Smith said: "We trained again on Saturday, it's just a case of keeping the boys ticking over at the moment. But we are desperate to play again, Eastbourne have got points on the board so they are in a strong position but there's no reason why we can't close the gap by putting a run of results together."
Dave Garrett (broken wrist) is still out, but Smith will have a full strength squad available otherwise for the trip to Oving.
Meanwhile the postponed Sussex Floodlight Cup quarter-final against Horsham will take place at East Court next Tuesday (Feb 19), kick off 7.15pm.
Horsham are unbeaten in their last 17 games but Smith is looking forward to facing the Ryman League Division Two title-chasers.
"It's a great opportunity to test ourselves against a quality side," he added.
"We have nothing to lose and it's a nice occasion for the players and the club to be entertaining a side from outside the County League."
James Horner is cup-tied for the Horsham game while skipper Dave Gellatly will miss at least one game when he serves a suspension for accumulating five bookings in the first week in March.
Wasps will face Rye in the final of the Division Two Cup should they get past Eastbourne Town in the semi-final which will take place next month, probably at Burgess Hill. Rye beat Shoreham 5-4 on penalties in their semi last week after the sides had drawn 3-3.
Meanwhile Grinstead Reserves will face West Sussex League leaders Midhurst in the semi-final of the Sussex Intermediate Cup next month at a neutral venue, probably Horsham YMCA FC.
Last Saturday's league game at Crowborough was postponed. This Saturday the reserves entertain Redhill (ko 3.00pm).

EAST Grinstead Town Reserves took centre stage on Saturday when they reached the semi-finals of the Sussex Intermediate Cup.
A second half goal from midfielder George Parsons earned them a 1-0 win over Whitehawk's second string and put them in the last four for the first time in 13 years.
The reserves can now concentrate on their promotion battle for a few weeks. On Saturday they hope to play their first East Division game since November 24 at Crowborough (ko 3.00pm).

Meanwhile first team boss Bob Smith will be without young wingback Dave Garrett for a while after he broke his wrist in an accident.
Smith doesn't know how long Garrett, who has been in impressive form this season, will be out for but it's unlikely he will play in the next two or three weeks.
Wasps have played just five times since November 24 and if Saturday's home game against Oakwood goes ahead it will be their first action for a month. Kick off at East Court is 3.00pm.
Despite an improvement in conditions, East Court was unplayable last Saturday for the visit of Shinewater when the pitch was inspected by local referee Stuart Booth.
Eastbourne Town won again, 1-0 at Broadbridge Heath, to cement third place, 11 points ahead of Wasps who do have five games in hand. Lancing are two points behind in sixth, also from 21 games played, after winning 1-0 at home to Oakwood.
Apart from Garrett, whose likely replacement is Chris Raymond, Grinstead should be at full strength on Saturday.
Smith said: "We're desperate to play after four weeks without a game. We can't afford to let Eastbourne get out of sight, even though we have all those games in hand.
"We have been training hard and the boys are raring to get back to action again."

THE WINTRY weather has wrecked East Grinstead Town's bid to strengthen their promotion challenge in County League Division Two.
Grinstead's three Christmas fixtures - at home to Oving and Oakwood and the Boxing Day derby at Crawley Down - were all postponed because of frozen pitches.
It's been a frustrating time for manager Bob Smith who was hoping to pair a new-look strike force in fit-again Kris Trevor and James Horner, whose previous appearances since joining the club from Redhill in October have all been on the left-hand side of midfield.
Weather permitting, they will get their chance tonight (Wednesday) when Grinstead kick off 2002 with a home game against Wealden at East Court, kick off 7.30pm.
One player happy with the spate of postponements is Andy Rabbetts who has returned from a Christmas holiday having not missed a game.
Rabbetts has been one of Wasps' most consistent performers this season and is likely to resume his partnership at the heart of the defence with fit-again Steve Moore.
Grinstead are also due to be at home on Saturday with Westfield the visitors, kick off 3.00pm.
Wasps have slipped to fourth place in the table, but their promotion hopes received a boost on Saturday when Rye beat Eastbourne Town 2-1 to go second.
The reserves have also suffered from the weather with Saturday's trip to Wealden called off.
This Saturday they visit Eastbourne United (3pm) hoping to close the gap on the leaders Eastbourne Town in the East Division.

Ian Lindsey's side haven't played a league game since November 24 - six weeks ago - and are eight points behind Town in second place. But they do have five games in hand and go into the new year with one of only two unbeaten records in County League football. The other belongs to first division leaders Burgess Hill.

GRINSTEAD boss Bob Smith is running into injury problems at both ends of the pitch as his side prepares for the busy holiday programme.
Smith could be without three central defenders for Saturday's home match against Oving (3pm) and he is sweating on the fitness of new frontman Kris Trevor who pulled a hamstring in Saturday's defeat at Rye.
Andy Rabbetts is unavailable while Steve Moore (hamstring) and Scott Woolley (hip) will need further treatment this week in an effort to be fit.
Wasps face four games in the space of 11 days over Christmas and New Year with three of them at East Court either side of the Boxing Day derby against Crawley Down.
He said: "We will have a much clearer idea of how the promotion race is shaping up after the holidays.
"We are still in there challenging despite the Rye defeat and I am still hoping to bring in a player or two in time for the Christmas fixtures."
Using the versatile Steve Greig up front is an option and Smith may also promote Phil Thompson from the reserves.
Dave Gellatly faces a suspension after collecting his fifth booking on Saturday. Steve Greig was also cautioned.

WASPS' boss Bob Smith admits his side face their sternest test of the season on Saturday when they make the long trip to second-placed Rye & Iden United (1.45pm).
The big-spending East Sussex club are looking for their second successive promotion and are currently second with a 100 per cent league record at home. They also won 3-2 at East Court in October.
Smith said: "It's going to be a very diffiuclt game, but when we played them at home we came from 2-0 down and could have won so we know that if we get at them we have a chance. Any sort of result down there would be a tremendous achievement."
Smith's main injury doubt concerns defender Steve Moore who limped off with a recurrence of his hamstring injury at half-time during Saturday's 2-1 win over Seaford. Daniel Medcalf, who replaced him, is favourite to continue at sweeper.

Grinstead Reserves' home match with Lewes on Friday was postponed by the County League because the visitors were unable to raise a side because of a flu bug.
It's cup action for the seconds this weekend when they go to Hurstpierpoint for a third round tie in the Sussex Intermediate Cup, kick off 1.30pm.

EAST GRINSTEAD Town dropped out of the promotion places in County League Division Two without kicking a ball at the weekend.
Wasps suffered their third postponement of the season when the home game with East Preston was called off on Saturday morning because of a waterlogged pitch.
But leaders Shoreham beat Bosham 5-3 to stretch their lead at the top to ten points. Eastbourne Town, 4-2 winners at Westfield, are now second and Rye & Iden United, who also have games in hand, have moved above Grinstead into third spot after thrashing Wealden 7-1.
Grinstead boss Bob Smith wasn't too disappointed at his side's lack of activity. It at least gave recent signing Steve Moore extra time to recover from the hamstring strain which forced him to come off in the 2-0 defeat at Westfield in Wasps' last match a fortnight ago.
Wasps visit Rye for a crucial re-arranged fixture on Saturday week, but they face another tough game this Saturday when they visit improving Seaford (ko 2.00pm).
Since appointing Duncan Kneller as manager Seaford, beaten 4-1 at East Court in October, have won three successive matches and the small, sloping pitch at Crouch Gardens is a notorious advantage for the home side.
Smith said: "It will be a tough game but one we are capable of winning. They have got some good forwards and seem to be keeping clean sheets, but we will be up for it.
"A week off probably did us a bit of good. The lads have trained hard and we're looking forward to getting back to work."
Grinstead Reserves' Intermediate Cup third round tie at Hurstpierpoint was also postponed and re-scheduled for December 15.
The reserves hope to strengthen their East Division promotion push against Lewes at East Court this Friday (December 7), kick off 7.30pm.

IT WAS a case of two in, two out at East Court this week as East Grinstead Town boss Bob Smith shuffled his pack as his side slumped to their first defeat in seven games.
Wasps have lost top scorer Ben Burns to first division Redhill while winger Roger Gualtieri, frustrated no doubt at a lack of first team opportunities, moved back to his former club Lingfield.
But Smith has strengthened his promotion-chasing squad by bringing defender Steve Moore back to East Court for a second spell from Oakwood and signing striker Chris Trevor.
Both played on Saturday when Wasps went down 2-0 to Westfield to end a run of six successive league and cup wins.
Grinstead stay second in Division Two despite this setback, as other results went their way, but just two points seperate five sides tucked in behind leaders Shoreham.
And Wasps face a crucial test at East Court on Saturday when third-placed East Preston, who have never beaten Grinstead, are the visitors, kick off 3.00pm.
Trevor will make his home debut and Smith feels that the 21-year-old, who hails from Teeside, will be a big asset.
Smith said: "He hasn't played for a couple of years and he needs to get fitter. But I was really pleased with the way he played on Saturday, he's got a great touch and seems to be able to create a bit of space for himself in the box which is what all good strikers do. I think he's going to be a real asset for us."
Smith was philisophical about the departure of Burns. The youngster has scored 11 goals this season, but had gone seven games without a goal before his move to Kiln Brow.
"We can't compete financially with what Redhill offered and Ben wants to try his luck at a higher level so good luck to him," added Smith.
Moore returned in his favourite position as sweeper behind man of the match Andy Rabbetts at Westfield, the pair having first partnered each other in the heart of Grinstead's defence exactly ten years ago.
"Steve and Andy were outstanding, but we can't have any complaints about the result," said Smith. "We struggled in midfield, an area where we have been doing well recently, and we conceded two really bad goals.
"I think Westfield will take points from a lot of teams at home this season. The other results went okay for us so we didn't lose too much ground, but it's important we bounce back on Saturday."
Wasps will have to keep a special eye on East Preston striker Matt Huckett who scored his 23rd goal of the season on Saturday.
Smith may have to make one enforced change after midfielder Matt Thorpe broke his nose against Westfield.
"It was a bad blow, but Matt is keen to play and we'll have to see how he does nearer the time," added Smith.

WASPS are up to second in County League Division Two after their perseverence paid off with a late winner against lowly Storrington at East Court on Saturday.

BOB Smith will strengthen his squad this week when he completes the signing of Oakwood defender Steve Moore.
Moore played for Grinstead for five seasons after joining the club at the same time as Andy Rabbetts in 1992 before joining Oaks where he was first team captain.
He is likely to be in the squad for this Saturday's tough-looking trip to Westfield (2pm) and may even start, especially with defender Scott Woolley doubtful because of work commitments.
Smith is delighted to have captured Moore, a player he has tried to get back to East Court before.
He said: "Everyone at the club knows what a good player Steve is and we're delighted to have him back. He's quick, reads the game really well and is a very composed player who can only strengthen our side."
Smith hopes to complete the signing of Redhill forward Ricky Geddes this week but insists he is still trying to bring in more new faces.
"I'm always interested in players who will make us a better side," he added.
"It's a crucial time of the season but we are going well, confidence is high and the players are working hard."
Smith was delighted with a sixth successive win against Storrington on Saturday.
"They made it hard work for us, but we kept going and I think our fitness was a big factor in the end," he added.
"The boys are worked hard at training and that will pay off, particularly when the pitches start to get heavier.
"This Saturday's game at Westfield will be difficult. They are hard to play against on their own pitch and have got some good players but we will go there confident we can get a result."

BOSS Bob Smith is trying to improve his East Grinstead Town side from a position of strength after they enjoyed their best week of the season.
Wasps followed up their midweek cup win over Shoreham with an excellent 1-0 success at Eastbourne Town on Saturday.
A fifth successive win, and third clean sheet in a row, cemented Grinstead in third place in County League Division Two ahead of Saturday's home game against Storrington (ko 3.00pm).
But Smith is well aware that there are areas of the team which could still do with strengthening.
Midfield players have scored every one of the 13 goals Grinstead have netted since Ben Burns' brace against Worthing United at the beginning of October. Burns has been stuck on 11 goals since with Smith trying both Richard Whale and Sam Bettridge, currently the leading scorer in the reserves, as Burns' partner since the departure of last season's top scorer James Hylton.
Three potential targets will be watched this weekend, but Smith has signed veteran former Redhill forward Ricky Geddes as cover and expects to make another important signing in the next week or so.
He said: "We are playing really well at the moment and the fact that we have stopped conceding goals has been a real bonus.
"But in tight games such as Saturdays, when it could have gone either way, it also shows that we need a proven goalscorer. We are creating chances, but just not taking them at the moment.
"Ricky is very experienced and will be a useful player to have around to help us out."
If Smith can improve the side he believes they have an excellent chance of going up after last season's near miss.
"It's a very open league and although there are teams below us with games in hand we have points on the board and are in a good position," he added.
Smith's options should be boosted by the return of defender Chris Raymond who is fit again after missing the last four games with an ankle injury. Damian Cherry and Roger Gualtieri are among the options should be shuffled his pack in midfield, but London-based defender Ian Smith, who made two first team appearances, has left the club because of work commitments.

GRINSTEAD Reserves pulled off a notable scalp on Saturday when they came from behind to beat County League Division Three side Newhaven 2-1 at East Court in the second round of the Sussex Intermediate Cup.
Bobby Wallis, making his first start of the season, got the equaliser after a goalmouth scramble before good work by Terry Wright in midfield created an 85th minute winner for Mark Whale.
Ian Lindsey's side travel to another Division Three outfit, Hurstpierpoint, in the third round.
Eastbourne Town's win over Shinewater meant they lost the leadership of the East Division and have no scheduled game this weekend.

WASPS moved up to third place in County League Division Two, but manager Bob Smith admitted his side had made hard work of maintaining their unbeaten league away record on Saturday.
Grinstead have won all four previous visits to Shinewater, scoring 17 goals in the process, and that record didn't look under threat in the first 30 minutes when Matt Thorpe put his side in front and they squandered several other opportunities.
But Shinewater battled back in the second half and it needed a penalty save from Scott Kenward, from the home side's only shot on target, to preserve the lead before Steve Greig continued his goalscoring form by converting a late penalty.
Smith said: "I was really pleased with the way we played in the first half hour. We played at a good tempo and knocked the ball around really well.
"But a 1-0 lead is never enough and they came back at us although they didn't really get behind us too often. It's another three points and we're challenging at the top, but I know we can play a lot better."
Grinstead have scored nine goals in three successive league wins, but all have been netted by midfielders and Smith suffered a blow last week when James Hylton left the club.
Hylton, who lives in Balham, is unable to train or play midweek games because of work and felt unable to make the necessary commitment for senior football.
Smith's search for a striker is intensifying, but in the meantime Roger Gualtieri is expected to return to the team for Tuesday's re-arranged Floodlight Cup tie against Shoreham for his first start since September 8.
That could mean a place in attack for James Horner with Gualtieri slotting into his place on the left-hand side of midfield.
Grinstead return to league action on Saturday with a tough-looking trip to Eastbourne Town (ko 3.00pm).
Wasps beat them 3-2 at East Court three weeks ago, but their unbeaten away record facest it's sternest examination yet at the Saffrons.

EAST GRINSTEAD Town slipped a place down to fifth in the County League second division after they were left kicking their heels on Saturday.
Wasps' home match with lowly Oving was postponed because the East Court pitch was waterlogged.
Last week's Floodlight Cup tie against Shoreham was also called off. The second round game has now been re-arranged for next Tuesday (November 6), kick off 7.15pm.
It will give manager Bob Smith a chance to guage the improvement in his side since they lost to Shoreham in their opening league game back in August.
Shoreham currently lead the table by a hefty 13 points after their 4-2 win at Westfield on Saturday, but Smith predicts a ferocious battle for the other two promotion places.
He said: "Shoreham are in a great position because they have got a nice cushion. But there wasn't a lot to chosse between us when we played in August and that was when we were struggling for a settled side.
"The league is obviously a priority, but if we could beat them we would probably play Horsham at home in the third round and that is a great incentive."
Before the cup tie Wasps resume league action on Saturday when they visit Shinewater, a side they have never lost to on their opponents' ground, kick off 2.30pm.
Defender Chris Raymond, who missed the 3-2 win over Eastbourne Town a fortnight ago, is a doubt because of bruising on his ankle. James Hylton and Dave Garrett, who came off the bench to play a big part in the win, are pressing for starting roles.

BOSS Bob Smith is stepping up his bid to bolster his East Grinstead Town squad as Wasps enter a crucial phase of the season.
Friday's 2-2 draw against Worthing United left them 11 points adrift of leaders Shoreham in seventh place in County League Division Two.
And Wasps will have played over a third of their league fixtures after Saturday's trip to lowly Storrington (3pm).
Smith said: "Beginning with the Rye United game tomorrow (Tuesday) we have four matches this month and three of them are at home and it's vital that we try and win all four.
"Shoreham have opened up a bit of a gap, but the other two promotion places are wide open and we will be there or there abouts.
"I'm always looking to improve the squad with better players than the ones already here and it may be time to freshen things up."
Injuries to Kevin Wright (hamstring) and Simon Rolfe (ankle) as well as the long-term injury to Keith Bradshaw, who is out for the season with a broken leg, have affected Smith's selection options.
Luke Dunstan, impressive since he broke into the reserves, is expected to get his first call-up into the senior squad for Rye's visit and will probably play at rightback.
Two spectacular goals from Ben Burns, the second in the 86th minute, looked to have secured Wasps victory over Worthing United. But poor defending allowed former Brighton striker Richard Tiltman to snatch an equaliser in injury time.
Smith said: "They didn't cause us too many problems and I thought we edged the game, but we gave away two bad goals, our defending on both occasions was poor."

BOSS Bob Smith is looking for an improved performance from his East Grinstead Town side as they prepare for two important league games over the next few days.
Wasps reached the quarter-finals of the Division Two Cup at East Court on Saturday, but Smith admitted they made hard work of their 2-1 win over Mile Oak.
And he knows his side will have to raise their game for the home matches against Worthing United on Friday and Rye & Iden United next Tuesday, both 7.30pm kick offs.
It's the start of a crucial month for sixth-placed Grinstead in County League Division Two. Four of the five games during October are at home and by the end of it Smith should have a good idea of whether his side can sustain a promotion challenge.
He said: "The next two games are very important, but if we can lift the level of performance from Saturday there's no reason why we can't win them both.
"We didn't play badly on Saturday, in fact we started very well. But once we went 2-0 up we took our foot off the pedal and allowed them to come back into the game.
"We created a lot of chances, but it seems we need to make six or seven to score one at the moment. But I'm sure the goals will start going in, we're creating the opportunities which is the important thing."
Dave Gellatly, operating on the right-hand side, and top scorer Ben Burns, who has nine goals so far, particularly impressed Smith, but he wants his side to maintain a consistently high level of performance for 90 minutes, sharpen up on their passing and start getting a bit more vocal.
Midfielder Steve Greig (groin) came off against Mile Oak, but he should be fit for the Worthing United game which has been brought forward to Friday night to avoid a clash with England's World Cup qualifier against Greece.
Apart from Keith Bradshaw, who is out of hospital after an operation on his broken leg, Smith will have everyone available although midfielder Lee Power, who recently lost his place in the first team, has left Grinstead because he couldn't make the necessary commitment for senior football.
Smith said: "It's disappointing, but Lee has done a good job and I wish him all the best for the future."
Bradshaw will not play again this season although he was well enough to watch Saturday's game from the stands.

GRINSTEAD Reserves' East Division game at Wealden on Saturday was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
They visit Redhill in the league on Saturday and the kick off may be brought forward to avoid a clash with the England match.

EAST GRINSTEAD Town suffered a serious setback this week when key defender Keith Bradshaw broke his leg.
Bradshaw suffered a fracture of the tibia during the second half of Saturday's 4-1 FA Vase defeat at Thatcham Town.
Bradshaw needed ambulance treatment at the ground after feeling faint, but he was able to travel back to Sussex with the rest of the squad.
It was only on Sunday, after he'd visited hospital, that the full extent of his injury became known.
Bradshaw will be in plaster for ten weeks and with time needed afterwards to regain his fitness, manager Bob Smith is unlikely to have him available again much before next February.
Smith said: "It's a real blow, both to Keith and the club.
"He scored in the win over Seaford last week and I thought he was back to something like his old self.
"We are going to miss him, but we have cover in all positions now and I'm sure whoever comes in will do a good job."
Simon Rolfe is Bradshaw's likely replacement for Saturday's home game against Mile Oak in the Division Two Cup (ko 3.00pm).
Smith was also contemplating changes for last night's (Tuesday) Sussex Senior Cup tie at first division Hailsham.
With Dave Garrett still struggling to overcome an ankle problem which kept him out at the start of the season, Peter Benton was in line for his first start of the campaign.
And after several impressive displays as substitute, Steve Greig was expected to start in midfield.

Dave Garrett limped off at half-time in the cup defeat at Pagham with an ankle injury, but there are no other injury worries. Grinstead will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run in Division Two to five games against a side without a league win this season.

EAST GRINSTEAD Town FC opened their new changing rooms and floodlights in a ceremony before last Friday's County League game against Broadbridge Heath.
The honours were performed by the Mayor of East Grinstead, Mr Alan Lord, and Colin Dixon, managing director of club sponsors the Rydon Group.
Among the guests were Dennis Jefferies, secretary of the club's East Court landlords East Grinstead War Memorial Company, Ken Benham, Chief Executive of the Sussex FA and chairman Ron Pavey and other sponsors.
Mayor Lord presented the club with a cheque for £500 to help towards the cost of the project.
Town chairman Phil Cowlard said: "We now have facilities to be proud of, but it wouldn't have been possible without the help of a lot of people including the Rydon Group, our sponsors, and East Grinstead War Memorial.
"This was a way of thanking them and all the people involved with the club who have done so much to bring the project to fruition."

The first team are in cup action on Saturday when they travel to first division Pagham in the first round of the John O'Hara League Cup, kick off 3.00pm.
Next Wednesday (12th) they visit Mile Oak in the first round of the Sussex Floodlight Cup, kick off 7.15pm.

This Saturday the Reserves face a tougher looking test at home to relegated Eastbourne Town, kick off 3.00pm.

JAMES HYLTON is almost certain to make his first start of the season on Friday when Wasps entertain Broadbridge Heath (7.30pm).
And there could also be a place for midfielder Steve Greig who came off the bench against Wealden. Both players have been ruled out so far because of cricket commitments.
With Andy Rabbetts (thigh) and Simon Rolfe (ankle) struggling through injury, defensive cover could be provided by Keith Bradshaw and Scott Woolley, both of whom missed Monday's win through work commitments. Skipper Dave Gellatly is on holiday and unavailable while Phil Thompson is struggling with a perforated ear drum and missed both weekend games.
Before the game Grinstead's new changing rooms and floodlights will be officially opened by Mayor Alan Lord.
Next Tuesday (September 4) Wasps go to Oakwood in the league, kick off 7.30pm.

This Saturday the reserves play Bexhill at East Court, kick off 3.00pm while the third team, under new manager Phil Major, begin their campaign in Mid Sussex League Division Two with a trip to Lewes Rovers, kick off 1.00pm.

THERE is no panic from East Grinstead Town boss Bob Smith despite his side's faltering start to the season.
Three games into the new County League Division Two campaign, Wasps have just one point from their opening day draw at East Preston.
That was followed by successive home defeats against Shoreham and, on Saturday, Mile Oak.
Grinstead went down 3-2 to Oak on Saturday and while the manager was pleased that his side had scored two goals and also hit the woodwork twice he is at a loss to explain how a side with one of the best defensive records in the league last season suddenly has a vulnerable look about it.
Smith, a former defender himself of course, knows only too well that the basis of any successful team is a strong defence.
He said: "Five of the six goals we have conceded so far have been gifted to the opposition. When you do that you are always going to be up against it."
Keith Bradshaw missed the Oak match, but the return of Wasps' influential centre half for tomorrow night's (Tuesday) RUR Cup tie against Wealden means last season's first choice defensive trio will be back in harness.
But injury and holidays are robbing Smith of options in other areas of the field.
Top scorer James Hylton, who hit 17 goals last season, netted for the reserves in a 4-1 home win over Lingfield on Friday, but he is still ruled out of Saturday action for another fortnight because of cricket commitments.
Hylton opens the batting for Reigate Priory in the Surrey Championship.
Similarly, midfielder Steve Greig is ruled out as he tries to keep East Grinstead in the Sussex Premier League while Dave Garrett, having recovered from injury, is now on holiday.
Smith ran the rule over new signings Darren Ellis (defender) and George Parsons (midfielder) in the reserves and Parsons scored his third goal in two games after just 30 seconds before limping off with a twisted ankle, denying Smith the opportunity to give him a debut against Wealden. Ellis, who played in Dulwich Hamlet's first team last season, impressed but is some way off match fitness, according to Smith.
Sam Bettridge is due to get a run out tomorrow night after netting twice for the reserves on Friday.
Grinstead have two games over Bank Holiday when they hope to start climbing the league table.
They visit Lancing on Saturday (3pm) before going to Wealden on Monday (11am).
Smith added: "On Saturday we got back to 2-1, had a really good spell and at half-time I felt sure we would get something out of the game.
"But we conceded another sloppy goal and it was hard after that. Richard Whale and Ben Burns worked hard up front and we did a lot better in midfield, but the bad goals we are letting in are killing us at the moment. We need a clean sheet to give the whole team confidence."
On Saturday the reserves entertain Seaford Town at East Court, kick off 3.00pm.

MANAGER Bob Smith was pleased with Grinstead's performance even though they suffered a 2-1 defeat at first division Hassocks in their final pre-season friendly on Tuesday.
Wasps began slowly and after 20 minutes Hassocks had opened up a two-goal lead. But Grinstead got into the game and were unlucky not to score before Ben Burns eventually pulled one back with a well-taken strike in the second half.
Hassocks finished strongly, but couldn't improve on their lead.
Bob said: "Apart from the first 20 minutes and the last five we were probably the better side. It was a good run out before Saturday."
Chris Raymond made his first appearance of the season after recovering from a knee injury.

As he prepares for his fourth season in charge at East Court, East Grinstead Town boss Bob Smith won't be drawn into making rash predictions about his side's promotion chances.
But with virtually all the squad who just missed out last season back for another tilt at County League Division One football, Smith has every right to feel that his team will at least be challenging for a top three finish again.
Grinstead had to play 19 games in the last two months of last season and fatigue, more than any other factor, was why they just missed out on a place in the top flight.
Nevertheless, fourth place was Wasps' best finish for six seasons and was proof of the quiet progress Smith has made with his young squad since he took over in 1998.
Smith said: "I'm really excited about the new season. We're looking fitter than ever before, everyone is really upbeat and I definitely think we're going to figure in the promotion race."
The only disappointment for Smith during the summer was the departure of midfielder Stuart Hardy whose end of season surge took him to 17 goals and made him equal top scorer with James Hylton. Hardy is trying his luck with Ryman League Horsham and leaves with Grinstead's best wishes, but Smith is confident he won't be missed too much in midfield.
Andy Stonley, who made such an impression at the end of last season, Tom Butcher and Matt Thorpe are all around to challenge the established quartet of Steve Greig, Kevin Wright, skipper Dave Gellatly and Dave Garrett for midfield places.
Wasps had one of the best defensive records in Division Two last season and although Chris Raymond's knee injury means he won't be available for the first few games, there is a ready made replacement at sweeper in Simon Rolfe.
Keith Bradshaw, Andy Rabbetts and Scott Woolley are all back and the likes of Peter Benton and right-back Luke Dunstan, who played for Horsham before suffering a knee injury last season, will keep them on their toes.
Goalkeeper Scott Kenward now has Phil Meakin providing competition for his place and a third 'keeper, Lee Browne, has joined from Haywards Heath to put pressure on those two.
In his first spell at East Court, when he helped Grinstead to their last promotion to Division One eight years ago, Lee Power was a regular in midfield. But Smith has used the former Three Bridges man up front in the friendlies and two goals in three games and some impressive displays are evidence of what Power could offer.
Youngster Ben Burns appears to have a big future ahead of him, if his performances at the end of last season are an indicator, while Hylton will only be available for midweek games until the end of the cricket season in three weeks time.
"There is a lot of strength in depth in the squad now," said Smith. "We have added Lee Power and there may be another signing or two this week.
"It's hard at this stage to say what sort of league we're going to have. The three sides that got relegated won't necessarily have made the league any stronger, but we play two of them in the first three weeks so we should have a good indication of what it might be like."
The mood at East Court is certainly positive. New changing rooms have been built and Grinstead's new lights will be used for the first time on Tuesday when Shoreham visit East Court for the opening home league game, kick off 7.30pm.
The season kicks off on Saturday at East Preston, one of the teams relegated from Division One last season (kick off 3.00pm).
Wasps have never lost to EP in 11 league and cup games, winning ten of them, and maintaining that impressive run would be a dream start to the new campaign.
"It will be a good test for us," said Smith. "But we're the same as last season - we don't fear anyone. There is such good confidence in the camp and rightly so, we went very close last season and there's no reason why we shouldn't have another good year."

GRINSTEAD Reserves have narrowly missed out on promotion from the East Division in the past two seasons, but boss Ian Lindsey should benefit from the increased strength in depth at East Court as he plans his challenge for honours.
The reserves kick off their programme at home to Shinewater on Saturday, kick off 3.00pm.

WASPS' friendly with Pease Pottage on Saturday was postponed because their opponents could not fulfill the fixture. Grinstead had to switch the match from East Court to Ardingly College, but the 6pm kick off time did not fit in with Pottage's plans.
Grinstead played their final friendly at first division Hassocks on Tuesday.

TWO wins over County League Division Three opposition last week maintained East Grinstead Town's excellent pre-season form.
Wasps won 3-0 at TSC on Tuesday night and followed it up with a 2-0 victory over Crowborough at the Alderbrook on Saturday.
Apart from last season's skipper Stuart Hardy, who has joined Ryman League Horsham, manager Bob Smith has been able to call on all of the squad which just missed out on promotion to Division One.
Most of them have had a run out in the three friendlies so far, but it has been the form of Lee Power which has impressed Smith as much as anyone.
Power, playing up front, scored in the 2-1 win over Eastbourne United in the first warm-up game.
And he was on target again on Saturday, coming off the bench to seal the win over Crowborough when he controlled a long pass from Keith Bradshaw before sweetly firing in Grinstead's second goal.
The opener was netted by Richard Whale who had the easiest of tasks to prod the ball into an empty net after the home keeper had spilled the ball under a challenge from Power.
Smith said: "On chances created we could have won more easily, but I wouldn't say it was our best performance.
"In fairness to the players it was very hot and the pitch was a bit bumpy, but Andy Rabbetts had his first run out of the season and it was another 90 minutes under their belts for the players."
Smith used his third different goalkeeper when Lee Browne made his debut. If Browne signs, it means Smith will have four goalkeepers on his books which, he acknowledges, is a good position to have cover in. Three members of last season's under-16 team, Elvis Lynn, David Barham and Rob Whiting were all given a brief run-out in the second half and played in the reserve team game which followed and ended 0-0.
Ben Burns had his first run out of the season while Tom Butcher impressed in midfield for Ian Lindsey's team.

They entertain newly promoted third division side Pease Pottage on Saturday. This game has been switched to Ardingly College from East Court, kick off 6pm.
Then on Tuesday (August 7) Wasps travel to first division Hassocks, kick off 7.30pm.

WASPS made it two wins out of two in warm-up games for the new season when they beat TSC 3-0 on Tuesday night.
The County League division three outfit rarely troubled Grinstead keeper Phil Meakin and the visitors were comfortable winners.
Kevin Wright capitalised on a goalkeeping mistake to put Wasps in front after 20 minutes, Phil Thompson chipped the keeper to make it 2-0 after 72 minutes and Roger Gualtieri's 20 yard drive completed a satisfactory night for Grinstead with their third goal two minutes from the end.
Team: Meakin, Woolley, Rolfe, Bradshaw; Thorpe, Gellatly, Butcher, Wright, Garrett, Power, Whale. Subs (all used): Stonley, Gualtieri, Betteridge, Thompson, Kenward, Benton.

GRINSTEAD continue their pre-season build-up with a double header at Crowborough on Saturday (July 28). The first team kick off at 2pm with the reserves in action afterwards.
Ben Burns, who enjoyed such a rich vein of goalscoring form at the end of last season, is poised to make his first appearance of the campaign.
Meanwhile the County League have announced that Wasps will start their Division Two programme away to relegated East Preston on Saturday, August 11 (3pm).
The opening home match is the following Saturday against Mile Oak, kick off 3.00pm.
The reserves begin their East Division fixtures at home to Shinewater before entertaining Lingfield under the new floodlights on Friday, August 17, kick off 3.00pm.

EAST GRINSTEAD Town boss Bob Smith was happy with his side's performance after they made a winning start to their pre-season friendlies against Eastbourne United on Saturday. Goals from Sam Betteridge and Lee Power earned Wasps a 2-1 win over their first division opponents in a competitive runout at Ardingly College.
Betteridge opened the scoring in the first half from the penalty spot after he had been fouled to reward an impressive first half display by Grinstead. In his first spell at East Court Power made his name as a midfielder, but on Saturday he partnered Betteridge up front and doubled Grinstead's lead midway through the second half, outpacing a defender before firing a first-time shot into the top corner.
United pulled a goal back in the last ten minutes, but Wasps thoroughly deserved their victory.
Smith said: "We played quite well, especially in the first half. Some of our football was good to watch, but we still looked a bit rusty. There are things to work on in the other games."
Niggling injuries meant neither Andy Rabbetts or Chris Raymond were involved while fellow defender Keith Bradshaw was one of three second half substitutes. Also missing were James Hylton and Steve Greig because of cricket and striker Richard Whale who was working.

Grinstead continue their build-up to the start of the County League season on August 11 with two games against third division opposition this week.

GRINSTEAD will face two of the sides who pipped them to promotion last season in cup ties this campaign.
They have been drawn away to Hailsham in the Sussex Senior Cup while a trip to Peacehaven is the prize in the RUR Cup should they overcome Wealden at home in the first round.
Wasps have home advantage against Mile Oak in the Division Two Cup second round, but must visit Oak in the first round of the Floodlight Cup. In the John O'Hara League Cup Grinstead are away to first division Pagham.

EAST GRINSTEAD Town step up their preparations for the new County League season on Saturday with the first of five pre-season friendlies. First division Eastbourne United are the opponents at Ardingly College, kick off 2.00pm.
Apart from last season's skipper Stuart Hardy - who is trying his luck with Ryman League Horsham - Bob Smith will have the squad which finished fourth in Division Two available.
Three players - goalkeeper Phil Meakin and midfield pair Tom Butcher and Matt Thorpe - are also available on a regular basis after finishing university studies - and some new faces have been pre-season training. They include midfielder Lee Power, who was in Wasps' last promotion-winning squad in 1993 before spells with Three Bridges and East Grinstead United - and goalkeeper Lee Browne who has been with Division Three outfit Haywards Heath for the last few seasons.
Smith also hopes to have former Redhill striker Trevor Hooper at training this week. Smith tried to sign Hooper last season, but he was committed to managing Surrey League team Bletchingley, but is now keen to have another crack at senior football.

Smith said: "I'm really pleased we will have Trevor with us. He's big and strong, but he's got a wonderful touch and I think he will be a real handful at this level.
"Training has gone well, apart from Stuart we have everyone who was here last season and now we're looking forward to the friendlies."

Grinstead have another warm-up match next Tuesday against Crawley-based Division Three side TSC at Tinsley Lane, kick off 7.00pm.

Meanwhile Wasps have been drawn away to Wessex League outfit Thatcham in the first qualifying round of the FA Vase. Grinstead are back in the competition after a three-year absence and they make the trip to Berkshire on September 22.

EAST GRINSTEAD Town only finished the 2000-01 season six weeks ago, but after one of the shortest County League summer breaks ever they are back in training for the new season.
Bob Smith, who is starting his fourth season in charge, was putting the squad through their paces for the first time on Tuesday alongside assistant Dave Gellatly.
Training continues every Tuesday and Thursday at East Court at 7pm and a warm welcome will be extended to any new faces who want to try their luck in senior football.
Wasps finished last season in fourth place in Division Two, just three points outside the promotion positions, and Smith is confident his young side can go one better this time around and win back the coveted top flight status Grinstead lost in 1994.
All of last season's first team squad have already committed themselves to the club for another year with one notable exception. Skipper Stuart Hardy, who finished the season joint-leading goalscorer with 17 goals, is to sign for Ryman League Horsham for whom he played a handful of games last season before returning to East Court for the last two months of the campaign.
But Smith will be able to call on goalkeeper Phil Meakin and midfield pair Matt Thorpe and Tom Butcher, all three of whom have now finished university. And he is confident of adding to his squad in time for the big kick-off on August 11.
Grinstead have arranged five pre-season friendlies, the opener being against first division Eastbourne United on July 21 at Ardingly College. Three days later they visit TSC and play another third division outfit, Crowborough Athletic, at the Alderbrook on July 28.
Pease Pottage, newly promoted to the County League, visit East Court on August 4 and Wasps round off their preparations three days later with a trip to first division Hassocks.
Smith has re-structured his management team with Simon Larking now assisting Ian Lindsey running the reserve team. Phil Major has replaced Steve Hatswell as boss of the third XI in the Mid Sussex League while Larking will be in charge of the under-18s in the Sussex County Youth League for the second season running. And Grinstead have made a new appointment in Tony Hayward who will act as football liason between the senior and youth sections of the club.
The players will find a lot has changed off the field during the last few weeks. Grinstead have new floodlights to replace the ones stolen in January 1999. This has enabled them to enter both the FA Vase and Sussex Floodlight Cup competitions for the first time in three seasons. Final adjustments will be made at the end of the month so that they are ready in time for the big league kick-off.
And only the finishing touches need to be applied to the new dressing rooms which are situated next to the clubhouse. This means players will enter the pitch from behind the bottom goal instead of having to make the long walk down (and back up) the infamous East Court slope. The new facilities will be officially opened at the end of August.
Smith said: "Having the lights and new dressing rooms will give everyone a lift.
"The boys were disappointed not to have clinched promotion last season, but they are determined not to miss out this time so we are hopefully going to have a successful season."
