Achievements to date back to top Go to the top of the page

East Grinstead Football Academy was set up by East Grinstead Town Youth Development Officer, Bob Wallis, in March 2007. Affiliated to East Grinstead Town Football Club, the aim of the Academy is to promote football within the community. All coaches working as part of the Academy are FA qualified, CRB checked and hold child protection training.

The Academy continues to go from strength to strength. There are four main aspects to its work: the Development Centre, Holiday Courses, Curriculum Coaching within the school day and After school football clubs.

The Development Centre opened in September 2007. Players from a range of different teams in the local area are invited here to receive specialist coaching. By the end of the Summer Term the Development Centre was coaching a total of 90 children, aged between 6 and 12 years. The Centre re starts for a new term week commencing 9th September and also sees the re launch of a specialist girls group. Over the past year some of the Development Centre players were fortunate to be selected to play academy matches against Charlton Athletic at their training ground. Over the year players who have attended have noticeably improved in technique and skill.

The holiday courses continue to be extremely popular and run during every school holiday. Over the Summer 120 children attended these sessions at Sackville School, East Grinstead. The courses provide an opportunity for boys and girls, aged 6 - 12 years to have fun in a safe environment. They cater for all abilities from those new to football to the more advanced player. Sessions involve learning the basic skills and small sided fun games. Every child receives a medal for participating and 'Outstanding Player' trophies are awarded.

The next two day course is scheduled for the October 2008 half term at the same venue.

East Grinstead Football Academy provided Curriculum Coaching at three local Primary schools during the Academic year 2007/2008. This allows both boys and girls of all abilities to receive specialist football coaching as part of their P.E. Curriculum. This will continue throughout 2008/2009 with the opportunity extended to new schools.

After school football clubs for both boys and girls ran throughout 2007/2008 and from September 2008 will be offered in 6 local Primary Schools for a range of age groups.

In addition EGFA is pleased to offer advice for parents looking for teams for their children or ways their children can find pathways into football at a young age.
